The book that I read is called "Fahrenheit 451" by RayBradbury. This book depicts a story about a futuristic worldin the middle of a nuclear war. The government of this futureforbids its people from reading or taking a part in individualthinking. During this time, the law against reading is new andthe government is taken on a task of destroying all of thebooks. This is where we meet or main character named GuyMontag. He is a fireman. Him and his crew go around andburn books in libraries, and homes.
I think the theme of thestory is that there are many facets to a personality than is firstvisible. The book is narrated in third person. At thebeginning of the book we see Guy Montag as a ruthless manwho enjoys his job very much. Later on he discovers that hedoes not enjoy his life, it is merely a fake mask. He slowlydiscovers this in himself when he meets a teenage girl namedClarisse who is his new neighbor
She awakens a love anddesire in Montag to enjoy the simple things in life. He alsodiscovers that his happiness is fake when he discovers thathe does not love his tranquilizer addicted wife who caresmore about her television relatives than real life. Guy Montagslowly becomes unhappy with his life when he learns ofClarisse's death in an automobile accident and when he hadto bun an old lady alive in her house because she refused tolet them burn her books. When we discover that GuyMontag is unhappy with his life, we start to respect that he istrying to change his way of life. When Montag goes to talkto his wife about the disadvantages about being a fireman, she offers no sympathy and tells him to stay away from herbecause all she knows is that books are unlawful.
Afterawhile, Captain Beatty has a talk with Montag because he issuspicious of Montag's behavior. He tells Montag that theideas in books are not real and they cause a dispute inpeople's minds. He says that ridding the world ofcontroversy puts an end to dispute and allows people to livehappy. Later on, Montag confesses that he had not juststolen one book but yet a small library. As the bookprogresses, Montag becomes fascinated by books andbecomes an advocate for the saving of books.
He is thrownout of his job and home. Montag joins a commune who wantto save books. Each of them have to memorize a book thenburn it so that the authorities can't find it. Later on thecommune is forced to move south, away from the city that isgoing to be attacked in a war. After the war, Montagbecomes a hero and one of the last few remaining withliterature in their mind.
