Jonathan Edwards And The Puritan Mind
If one were to study the idea of Puritan thought
through only the reading of these three works of
Jonathan Edwards, one could probably gather a good
idea of the inner workings of the Puritan mind.
These three works do well to disclose to the
reader the inner and outer workings of Jonathan
Edwards. The Personal Narrative displays to the
reader Jonathan Edwards' view of himself as he
progressed through life, and the ideals and the
things that were most valuable to him, and the
things that were a h...

Jonathan Edwards and Benjamin Franklin Jonathan
Edwards and Benjamin Franklin both wrote simply,
directly and without aristocratic pretense. They
felt writing was not an end in itself, but a work
done in the service of something greater whether

Edwards focuses on the ecclesiastical whereas
Franklin, in "The Way to Wealth" appeals to the
individual. Edwards wrote to understand what was
happening around him and admits, "I made seeking

William Bradford and Reverend Jonathan Edwards are
still studied today. Bradford was an author who
wrote about the historical section of Puritan
life, while Edwards was a great speaker who wrote
sermons to give in front of his congregation.
Although living in the same time period Reverend
Jonathan Edwards and William Bradford used very
different styles of writing. In writing, praise
God Edwards Love Christ
That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is
Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised
him from the dead, you will be saved. -Romans 10:
9 From the time we are small children sitting in
Sunday school not able to fully grasp the love of
God that we sing simple songs about, we are taught
that Jesus was sent to earth to love us no matter
what. The Puritan congregation listening to

Great Awakening Edwards God Sermon
Jonathan Edwards was a major agitator of the Great
Awakening, the rebirth of Protestant faith in
North America in the middle of the 18 th century.
His sermon, Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God,
was delivered before a congregation of
Protestants, as well as unconverted persons. The
timeliness of Edwards's sermon was impeccable: It
was delivered when the fear of hell was
predominant in the minds of Christians. Edwards
acknowledged this vulnerability, which is why he
chose to play the 'hell' car...
Jonathan Edwards Figurative Language
The Puritan man must tread lightly and avoid sins
in order to enter the good graces of God.
Otherwise, the undeserving man will plunge by Gods
own hand into the pits of hell. Mercy is not easy
to come by and those sinners who are not embraced
by the kingdom of Heaven will live in eternal,
painful misery. Jonathan Edwards sermon was
obviously not intended to encourage his
congregation, but to frighten them into good, pure
submission. He sears his point onto their brains
by using extensive figurat...

John Edwards made a name for himself as a
successful trial lawyer, a strong husband and
father, and charismatic politician. Born in

occasions, and even called pride the true evil
sin. Benjamin, once conceived...

Jonathan Edwards Evil Man
He was considered a genius, quoted as a man of
formidable intellect and master of puritan

Calvinist and he had the power of single-handedly
keeping the Puritan faith strong and alive for
almost sixty years by using a sort of influential
scare tactic to provoke his audience. His name was
Jonathan Edwards and his use of imagery was
exquisite. In one of his great sermons "Sinners in
the Hands of an Angry God," Edwards used phrases

Johnathan Edwards God Jonathan Sinners
Jonathan Edwards "Your wickedness makes you as it
were heavy as lead, and to tend downwards with
great weight and pressure towards hell... ."
stated during one of Jonathan Edwards sermons.
Edwards used extreme and harsh words like these to
convince the members of his congregation they were
completely evil. Edwards' view of people was very
short, seeing people as only servers of God and
nothing more. He preached each sermon with great
conviction, and yet, he remained calm, often
