(Kennedy, 17) Many Irish immigrated to the United States between 1820 and 1920.
Most of them were farmers. They were the first to endure racism discrimination and unfair working condition in the land named America but they worked hard at railroad construction, mills and coalmines. As the years passed and new generations were born, their settlement was put into the better condition to live fairly as an immigrant. It was the period of the greatest migration from Europe to the United States. German immigration developed industrial enterprises and educational system. For example, German farmers helped to farm the New West and to cultivate the Mississippi Valley. In addition, the fields of lumbering, food-processing, brewing, steel-making, electrical engineering, piano-making, railroading, printing, scientific farming, crop rotation and soil conservation could develop the various fields of American industry. Furthermore, they introduced the school for children and promoted the concept of the state-endowed university. (Kennedy, 52) Scandinavian immigration started with Swedes migration first.
Between 1840 and 1930, about 1.3 million Swedes came to the United States. The other Scandinavian, Danes, Finns, Icelanders and Norwegians reached Swedes! peak in the 1880!'s. The Scandinavians settled in various areas. Swedes settled in Wisconsin at first and extended to Michigan, Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, Iowa and Kansas. Some of the Norwegians drove west to the Dakotas, Oregon and Washington to settle. Norwegian immigration to the United States is estimated at 840,000 and Danes at 350,000.
The Scandinavians played an important role in the United States school, educational system and contributed to the educational system in a variety of ways. Also, Swedes, Danes and Norwegians were skillful and talented in some fields so they helped developing an American Industry, including agriculture. (Kennedy, 55) Toward the end of the nineteenth century, large numbers of Italians, Russians, Poles, Czechs, Hungarians, Rumanians, Bulgarians, Austrians and Greeks arrived to the United States. Over 5 million Italians came between 1820 and 1963. Most large cities were called!

(Kennedy, 57-58) The Japanese and Chinese brought their gentle dreams to the West Coast. The estimated immigration of Japan is 338,087 in 1907 and the estimated immigration of China is 411,585 in 1882. (Kennedy, 85) America has often been called the land of immigrants.
I can say the statement! ^0 We are a nation of immigrants! +/- is historically true and evidenced by facts on record. Also the dreams such as the! ^0 American Dream! +/- have a positive function for a society because it attracts immigrants who help to develop America and keep it growing economically and in other fields. Since immigrants to America had existed back then and it still does, American dream had existed and it still exists.
