Introduction General Contracting is planning on building a cement production plant in the town of Middletown, in Frederick County, Maryland.
As part of the process an environmental impact study must be undertaken before the county can issue a permit to begin construction. b. Project History General Contracting has been producing building materials since 1964. It produces cement, gravel, and asphalt for construction contractors in the Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia area. It is the number one producer of building materials in this region. c. Project Objectives General Contracting is planning on expanding its current cement production facilities in Maryland by building a new facility in Middletown, in Frederick County.
The cement production plant will double the total current production in Maryland by increasing output by 2400 cubic yards of cement per week. The new cement production plant will run from the hours of 8: 00 am to 5: 00 pm and will close for 1 hour for lunch at 12: 00 pm on Monday through Saturday. On Sunday the plant will be closed. During each day that the plant is operating it will produce 400 cubic yards of cement. The production of cement will produce some effects to the environment which must be analyzed for negative impacts.
On any given day there will be approximately 20 full time employees running the plant, including management.
