Affirmative Action To Their Benefit example essay topic

March 6, 1961 is the day that the American businesses changed for the benefit of the minority and women. President John F. Kennedy issues Executive Order 10925, which creates the Committee on Equal Employment Opportunity and mandates that projects financed with federal funds "take affirmative action" to ensure that hiring and employment practices are free of racial bias. Affirmative action is a tool that people use with sense of opportunity, when used in the right manner. I believe that the main focuses when discussed are saying arguments against affirmative action divert attention from the real issues of where American jobs have gone. Everyone is hurt by low wages and dead-end jobs.

Wages are not stagnant and jobs are not lost because women and people of color have access to jobs that pay living wages. Corporate greed, rampant downsizing, contracting-out and free trade agreements like NAFTA are the villains. At my command, I work with civilians that have used affirmative action to their benefit. They did not abuse the system that helped them, but they showed their true talent in my field. Their performance spoke it all to the military and the civilian employer. I will no longer have the billet that I have now; the civilians will take my job for the shore technical support.

So, my billet will become an affirmative action billet for the area. Even in the military, we use affirmative action, but indirectly. We coordinate with a person called a detailed and he gives us an option of different kind of orders. Most of all de tailers stress diversity billets and places that you will advance in rate at. I believe that affirmative action has made a major, positive, and productive impact on America through education, increase in job opportunities, and increase in moral for minorities. According to an article presented by the University of Alabama, between 1890 and 1970, the percentage of lawyers who were black increased less than one percentage from 0.48% to 1.29.

Fifteen years later, 52.1% of law students were black. In 1971, women received 6.3 of all professional degrees. Ten years later, the figure had more than quadrupled to 27.5%. Women and minorities consistently express greater interest in practicing public- interest law. When I ask people what they think about affirmative action, some people say that it is a good thing when it is used for the benefit of everyone. When I looked at some facts about affirmative action, it is a method that helps the low class with qualifications, into a job that is ruled by corporate America.

In the statement above my question is, why is that wrong? I believe that some people have been raised without the benefits of the upper- class America, but they possess the same skills and knowledge of Corporate America. Why should they be judged, because of the color of their race and not the qualifications of their work? Is that corporate America want "their people" to succeed? I mean do they just want their family to succeed? Are they scared that the lower and middle class America might possibly succeed and in fact do better than them?

I guess that only can be said God knows the truth behind the plan of the upper class. In this growing day and age several myths surround the topic affirmative action. One myth that caught my eye was, "The fact of affirmative action will be decided in the courts-so there's no reason for action and protest". The fact is that law is a product of society, not the other way around. The Brown vs. Board of Education 1954 decision was the product of a Supreme Court that was, in its political attitude, overwhelmingly segregationist. So why did they give an integrationist decision?

The answer cannot be found in laws books. It is found in the street-in the beginning of a new phase of struggle for black equality. There are several companies that do not hire a person because of their nationality. I think that in case of the being scared to hire and scared to lose their job position. I believe in the end God will make everything right. I also believe just Enron falling, because lies and deception.

I believe any companies with bad intentions will 99% perish because of lack of stability. There are some companies that disqualify a person because of race and nationality. I can remember my best friend that was an Afro American that he had a variety of essential qualifications in stockbroker field, because the color of the skin, he was discriminate against. He had more qualification than the Executive Vice President of the company. My best friend's friend told him, he was the talk of the office. They were saying we couldn't have a black man in here it looks bad for business.

I know when he informed me it made me disgusted. I think it was about five years later that the affirmative action bill came in action. He was glad that the bill had passed and also when several people were about to lose their minds because of the culture shock. Also it also applies to the mistreatment of women in the corporate America. What about immigrants? Did they do something to help the country also?

Are they the ones that enlisted to the military to help the country? Are they the ones that look, find, and get jobs? In addition to that, they end up owning their own business. I must say that they are successful. I think that the question comes up why are the target of this mistreatment from the upper- class America? The Corporate world is ruled by upper class, white America, so why do they do people like that, is it to keep them down?

I believe that when wrong has done from the past, I guess that it finds its way on ahead in the future. I guess a person will have to have obstacles to succeed in life. I believe again, that affirmative action is beneficial to ones that have the things necessary to not to let race get in their way. In saying that, there are some that abuse and make excuses for their downfalls. I will the discuss some of the views of the Republicans in the closing. The Republican believes that a person should profit some other's hard work.

I think that with that statement, that would not be true. If any questions had come up I would think it would be, What if they are not as blessed as you? What if they have the qualifications and applied to work for a job, but they look at his address on his application, and they noticed they live in the rural community; will you still hire them? Some people would say no and some will plainly say it depends on their qualifications, but indirectly they will find some qualification that is not on the resume' and tell the person that qualification is required.

In closing, I believe that if the government will just do the right thing, and employ the most qualified, then the affirmative action thing would be not be used be used to give the minority an opportunity to succeed. I believe that because of the deceive nature the affirmative action has to stand because of the irresponsibility of the government, several corrupt politicians, and their undercover intentions.
