Alcohol is a drug that affects the functions of the mind as well as the body. It distorts the reasoning and judgement of even the most intelligent people and remains a central theme in a majority of legal incidents throughout the Navy. Responsible use of alcohol is completely acceptable and many Sailors choose to drink with no impact on their lives or the mission of the Navy. Tragically, there are those who do abuse alcohol. The result is degraded operational readiness, an adverse impact on safety, loss of duty hours, reduced efficiency and faulty decisions. Alcohol-related incidents (DUI / DWI) are a natural result of abuse and will not be tolerated.

Other alcohol-related incidents include any conduct or behavior, caused by the ingestion of alcohol, which results in discreditable involvement with civil and / or military authorities. Events requiring medical care or involving a suspicious public or domestic disturbance will be evaluated to determine if alcohol was a contributing factor, and if substantiated, will be considered alcohol incidents. Under no circumstances is it acceptable for personnel to be under the influence of alcohol while at work or on duty. To ensure all personnel are fully informed of their roles in the Navy's "Right Spirit" campaign. We must be proactive in the prevention and elimination of alcohol-related incidents. And also by taking action when you see that a employee has fall short and drank to much help them and not let them just run wild because you could be in a situation similar to the one that your employee and or co worker is in.
