American Dream Unless The Media example essay topic
This belief that is widely spread in the American people regardless of their race, ethnicity, backgrounds, religion or even age, is due to the great triumphs achieved by this nation. The victory in World War II followed by the downfall of the head of communism, the Soviet Union, are the perfect examples of the high morale Americans are charged up with. Away from the political arena, Armstrong's steps on the moon rained the Americans with so much confidence in their country and great hope and belief in the coming future. Despite these factors that reinforce the "belief of the better future" that Americans possess, there is one significant factor that virtually overcome all of the other factors in its power and influence over the American minds, which is the Media. The invisible role played by the media shapes the distorted American vision of the future and disables their ability to think and to make the right calculations and anticipations for the future. For all too many Americans the real world has been replaced by the false reality of the TV environment, and it is to this false reality that his urge to conform responds.
The secret role that the media plays is to hide what brings pessimism and to display to the public, or more accurately, over exaggerate what brings optimism. In addition to that, media masters establish tacit boundaries and ground rules for the permissible spectrum of opinion. As an example, consider the media treatment of racial issues in the United States. Some commentators seem almost dispassionate in reporting news of racial strife, while others are emotionally partisan with the partisanship always on the non-White side. All of the media spokesmen without exception, however, take the position that "multiculturalism" and racial mixing are here to stay, and that they are good things. Another example is the media treatment of Middle East news.
Some editors or commentators are slavishly pro-Israeli in their every utterance, while others seem nearly neutral. No one, however, dares suggest that the U.S. government is backing the wrong side in the Arab-Israeli conflict and that it served and will serve Jewish interests rather than American interests by sending U.S. forces to cripple Iraq, Israel's principal rival in the Middle East. Thus, a spectrum of permissible opinion, from pro-Israel to nearly neutral, is established. The mass media has been doing an outstanding job in covering up ugly crimes the American military committed against humanity. For the past 104 years, America has gone into war or taken military actions against more than 37 distinct nations around the world, which caused death to more than 8,375,000 million people. Furthermore, the U.S. has more weapons of mass destruction than anywhere else in the world, and has used them more often, while today America is chasing Iraq to disarm.
The U.S. has over 10,000 nuclear warheads in its arsenal. Any one of these could destroy a city-annihilating hundreds of thousands of people in the process. The U.S. remains the only regime to have used these terrible weapons in war, dropping atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, killing a quarter of a million people. In addition to that, the U.S. has built and tested anthrax bombs.
Moreover, the U.S. used chemical weapons, Agents Orange, Blue and White, during the Vietnam War. Children in Vietnam are still born with birth defects from their effects. This brutality is even more clearly expressed in the words of the highest American officials, "This is a period of enormous opportunity, a period akin to 1945-7, to create a new balance of power". Said Condoleezza Rice, Bush's national security adviser, "The U.S. must maintain the mechanisms for deterring potential competitors from even aspiring to a larger regional or global role".
Said Paul Wolfowitz, U.S. deputy defence secretary. Yet, all of these facts and information about the U.S. are still hidden from the general public and the average American citizen has no clue about all of this!! This is exactly what the media job is and that is how the American minds are molded to still make them believe that their country would "keep on booming". Crimes of that nature and with that tremendous volume are the best means to agitate the hearts of millions of people against this country and to initiate the rise of anti American sentiment in vast regions around the world including regions that are known to be American allies. As a consequence, radicals like Osama Bin Laden and others are formed and they easily charm thousands of suppressed people and recruit them for one goal, and that is, namely, bringing the complete downfall of the U.S. at any cost, even if it took those people to commit suicide.
Unfortunately, one person in the white house is still unable to give an explanation to the existence of such people who have hearts saturated with hatred and malice against Americans, or perhaps more precisely, this person gave some weird explanations to his people such as "they " re jealous of our freedom and our prosperity" said that person in the white house. The attacks of September 11 carried out by some extremists convey a message to the American people; this message obviously says something completely different than "America would keep on booming". But unfortunately, the media decided to filter out this message and to deliver it to the American people as a sign of a start of a new era, where a new balance of power is created to the advantage of America. September 11 might be just the first episode of a very long series that would drive the U.S. into a devastating war with the other world, in which regardless of the victor in it, the results will be dramatically different than "future prosperity" or "American dream Unless the media is acted a upon by a major supreme external force, it will continue to market the principal that the general public will always continue to adopt, and that is this nation will keep on progressing. Concluding this essay with an analogy that best demonstrates the way media functions, it is as a machine, fed up by news, events and a variety of issues. Then it filters and peels off that portion of the input that would cause Americans to think right.
Finally, it outputs the result that is always, no matter what is so over, will always be the same. It is the result that would make Americans think, "This country would keep on booming.".
