2,438 words
Amanda is a 31 year old who has lived in Michigan all her life. She had a great childhood, as she seemed it was, with her parents already being together for 21 years. In her mind, "What could go wrong?" At the young age of 11, Amanda's mother decided to walk out and leave her behind. It took her a year to figure out that her mother wasn't coming back home, but as for her, she never gave up on her. Her mom was not only her "Mom", but also her best friend, so she thought. As the days grew longer, Amanda began to act out towards everyone but her father, Bill.

She was very fond of her dad. But suddenly Amanda had made a friend and her name was Amy. They were the same age and were inseparable. Amy and Amanda stayed at each other's houses, took long walks; that took up most there days and nights, and talked with friends. The girls got along great and were never apart, until the sad age of 13. Amanda got raped and found out 3 months later she was pregnant.

She was lost and was extremely scared. Not knowing what to do, Amanda started acting out and getting in trouble. She was fighting with others a lot, left home and became homeless; moving from home to home. Amanda was so lost in this big world and deep inside, she felt alone. Amy was in and out of Amanda's life at this time, only seeing her about once a year when she could, but they were best friends and never forgot about each other.

The first time they met up with each other was in their hometown, Albright Shores, and Amanda heard Amy was in town. When they seen each other, feeling like it had been a lifetime, they both went down in tears and were hugging each other saying, "I missed you". It seemed to them that their young worlds had been complete again. Amy told her she was pregnant and was running from the police and her caseworker. She was just as lost as Amanda was.

Within 2 days, Amy had to leave town again, not knowing when they would see each other again. Within days of their secret meeting, Amanda went to juvenile in Saginaw for 23 days. She was tossed from juvenile to juvenile and foster home to foster home. Besides her being lost, she felt like a pawn in the court system and with the State of Michigan.

Amanda hadn't seen home or her family for almost a year at this time. When she thought she had nothing to live for anymore, Amanda went into labor, giving birth to a beautiful son named, Aaron William, 8 pounds and 9 ounces. Labor to her was the hardest thing she ever had to do, 3 days of pain and bleeding. To Amanda, life had just begun all over again, knowing and feeling she had a reason to live again. She couldn't believe she was a child giving birth to a child. With her family by her side every step of the way, her father holding her hand and hugging her, she felt complete.

Telling herself, "all is well again". After all was well with the baby and mom, she went back to the foster home, not knowing they had a plan. Amanda loved, nurtured and cared for her new blessing for 3 months before her life took a dramatic turn. The foster home had adopted her son out to a different family. Being so young and not knowing what to do or whom she could turn to for advice or help, her baby was ripped from her arms, with no words said. Amanda cried for months, asking herself, "Is he going to be alright, God please don't let them mistreat him.

Please, God, Please!" She gave up all hope and faith with everyone around her. All she wanted was her dad and best friend, Amy. Amanda started mistreating others, hating them and herself. Being angry at the world, she tried to commit suicide, taking an overdose of pills. It didn't work, so she ran away from the home, not knowing where she was going or how she was getting there, she jumped out the window and ran.

After about a mile of running, Amanda hitched a ride, arriving in her hometown at 10: 00 p.m. Wow, how weird it was being back and forgetting where all her friends were at. Her life didn't seem complete, feeling like she was in a strange and difficult world; Amanda began to drink everyday. She hung out with a bad crowd, getting mixed up in a gang and started doing drugs.

"I will forget my past, no matter what it takes", she kept telling herself. Months went by and nothing changed. Out-running the police, avoiding her caseworker; she kept in hiding. Not a minute went by without her looking behind her back; scared she was going to get caught. After 4 months, she was trapped by the police and went to juvenile. Within a month, she went to a different foster home.

Going to school there, Amanda's GPA was 3.8 and she began to be proud of herself, not realizing she was so smart. It got old, thinking of her little boy again, she ran and went to South Carolina where her mom lived. Her cousin Mike picked her up; feeling loved and cared for again, she stopped doing drugs. With her mom around her, the hole in her heart, healed. Amanda asked her mom, Kathleen, a lot of question's of how and why. After years of thinking it was her fault her mother left, she now knew it wasn't.

Their bond grew stronger and stronger with each passing day. Amanda started to feel incomplete again, not knowing how her son was, where her best friend is and how her baby is and her dad. Within the year, Amanda left and moved back to Michigan. In search of her family and best friend, she met a young man, Basil.

He seemed to be the man she was longing. He was wonderful, as so she thought anyways. He began beating on her. Moving again, Amanda finally found Amy.

That day began a whole new journey for them. Being with each other that day forward, life was great. Going for walks, talking, laughing and crying over how life has been while they were apart. It seemed that nothing could go wrong now. Amy thinking she was with the man of her dreams, he began beating and cheating on her. Amanda couldn't let that happen to her friend, so they started planning on what to do to him to make him stop or go away.

Amy started to defend herself. It got to be good and things changed. Amy introduced Amanda to a man named Darel. Again thinking this was the man of her dreams, they bought a home together. After 3 months of buying their new home, Amanda found out she was pregnant. Happy and scared at the same time, she told Darel.

He seemed quite happy. Suddenly, Darel started drinking daily. He was verbally abusing her and made her feel as a nobody. From being happy, Amanda changed and got depressed.

As she layed their in bed at night, Amanda crying, "Nobody is going to take my baby or harm him in any way". Amanda knew she could survive this turmoil and grief. After nine months, the day had came. Amanda gave birth to a healthy baby boy, Darel Micheal, 8 pounds and 10 ounces, nothing could be greater. Her friend Amy and family coming to the hospital to see her and the joy that was born, she began to think it would all be alright now. Life was great now and she held her new son and promised she would never let him go, no matter what the consequences would be; if any at all.

With Darel drinking daily, Amanda knew the right thing to do is not give up on him. Months went by and Amanda found out she was having another baby. Again feeling scared of having another child with a man that she felt was an alcoholic, she felt like she was alone with raising their children. Darel was working out of town Monday through Friday, while Amanda and Little Darel stayed home. It was peaceful with no one around drinking or causing trouble. Darel began to drink all day, everyday and Amanda was getting tired of her life the way it was going.

Nine months later, Amanda gave birth to another healthy baby boy, Joshua Roy, 7 pounds and 15 ounces, and was proud as could be. As before, family and her best friend Amy came to see them in the hospital. 2 days later, mom and son left the hospital with tears of joy. Amanda still didn't seem like she was complete with not having her first born by her side, but she was a strong woman and Amy knew she could get through anything. Amy stayed with Amanda for a week to help her with the new baby and Darel, now a year and a half.

With life not changing for the good, Amanda began to rebel against Darel and his drinking habits. She started going out dancing twice a month with Amy, but it wasn't for a bad reason, but maybe to get out of the house. She would stare at the same 4 walls daily, for four years. Amanda knew it had to stop and she needed a break. She seemed like a young girl again, dancing the night away.

The times she was dancing, Amanda was thinking of her children and how and where her life was going. "What can I do to change this life I'm living for the better?" She knew she had to do something, but what? Feeling confused, she talked to Amy about it and they both came to a conclusion. Amy spoke up and said, "Move in with me". Needless to say, 2 month's later, Amanda left Darel and moved with Amy. She took her children and left everything else with Darel; thinking she will start over with a whole new and wonderful life somehow.

Not knowing how to start over by herself and two kids, Amanda got a job bartending and waitressing. Making about 1,000.00 dollars a week, she got her own place for her and just the kids. She seemed to be so happy. Working at the bar, she began to drink every night she worked, but still took care of the kids.

Amanda took on another job; taking care of Amy's kids while she worked and with Amanda being as strong as she was, three hours a night of sleep, she got a car. Month's later, Amy moved in with Amanda cause her boyfriend started beating on her again and Amy could not take it anymore. All seemed to be great, going to dinner every Friday and taking all the kid's to the store and letting them pick out a toy. The children loved it, always something for them to look forward too weekly. After 2 years, Amanda lost the ability to walk. She couldn't no longer work so her whole world fell apart.

Everything she worked for, she lost. Amy and her children moved out and went back home with Amanda and her kid's following weeks later. They kicked Amy's boyfriend out and Amy took care of Amanda and her kid's until she was able to do for herself again. Three month's went by and Amanda was able to go and grab the world by the horns again.

Not losing hope, she got her job back. They got their own house again. They moved to a home on 42 acres, with a pond in the back. Her boy's loved it.

They acted like they had it all, smiling and laughing all the time. Years later, Amanda met a man, Charlie, who didn't drink or do drugs. "Is he the right one", she would ask herself. They fell in love; though she thought and she got pregnant. He started being silent towards her and she knew she wasn't going through all that again, so she left him.

A few months went by and she went into labor. Giving birth to her first daughter, Amy Lyne, 6 pounds and 11 ounces, she was scared. The baby had a heart murmur. She didn't know much about these things but did the best she could.

Amanda lost her job, but still had faith that something would come along. The children started to become unhappy and wanted more, but she couldn't give them more. She had now lost everything again; she thought anyways. Amanda had met another man, Doug.

They seemed to be un separable, talking on the phone once or more daily and her going down state to see him on the weekends. She then moved again to her brothers. Amanda got a job, starting taking the kid's to dinner on Fridays, but still acted unhappy. It seemed anything she did was not good enough. Amanda and the kid's then moved in with Doug. Getting pregnant within months, she fell into a deep depression.

Her and the children moved out right after Christmas, leaving Doug with no reason why. Still keeping in contact, Amanda and Doug decided to work through everything together. With Amanda and Doug, nothing seemed wrong and their wasn't anything that would break them down ever again. They now live in Detroit, Michigan with 3 kids. Amanda had hard times in life but she never gave up on faith, hope and love.
