Andrew Carnegie: A Great Imigrant Essay, Research Andrew Carnegie: A Great Imigrant Andrew Carnegie and His Voyage to an American Tycoon It all started on Nov. 25, 1835 in a little town in Scotland. This was the setting for an american legend to be born. His name was Andrew Carnegie, he was from Scotland and he moved to the United States when he was just 13 years old, this was 1848. His family left for the same reasons most other Scottish families left their homelands at this time, lack of jobs. When his family a rived in the United States they decided to settle in Allegheny Pennsylvania When Andrew got to the U.S. A with his family, he did what most teenagers did, got a job.

He first worked in a cotton factory, then in a telegraph office, all the while learning the trade of business. Since Andrew was a poor, and little ly formally educated, immigrant, he didnt have many opertunities. But, one day, his big break came, when he was offered a job by the Pittsburgh Railroad Company. He discovered the Pullman car, along with many other breakthroughs. He also realized the importance of iron and steel in the business world. He decided that he could do better with his own skills, and formed the Keystone Bridge Co.

Along with this company he built a steel factory. And after that, a WHOLE empire, making Pittsburgh what it is today.
