A Misleading Duke- Measure For Measure Essay, A Misleading Duke- Measure For Measure A Misleading Duke Through out William Shakespeare's Measure for Measure, the Duke is misleading to all in the town. It all starts by him telling Angelo that he is tired of ruling, and wants to leave. He puts Angelo in charge and then leaves, or so Angelo thinks. He actually takes shelter at the church with the Friar so that he can watch Angelo. The Duke then dresses like a Friar and poses as one to the people he comes in contact with. While visiting the jail he hears of Claudio and he sentence.

After making a plan to fool Angelo into not executing Claudio, he tells his sister Isabella that the execution was never stopped and Claudio was killed. When the Duke returns to take control back from Angelo, he praises him and says he has heard only good things. When Isabella tells him of Angelo's wrong doings, he acts as though it is impossible, because Angelo is too good a person. In the end, all his little lies are revealed; Claudio is released and married to Juliet, Angelo is then forced to marry the woman he had broken off his engagement with, and the Duke proposes marriage to Isabella.
