A healthy society is always operating on a bedrock whose essential ingredients contains the abilities of tolerating the dislikes, understanding different ideas, respect and obedience to various regulations and laws, and the virtues of compassion, patience, love, fairness, justice, and even the quality of self-reflection, and self-question. In fact, that are all the products of a completely understanding of the spirit of conformity. Without such bedrock, hardly could the society survival long and maintain development. Consider, the example, the Los Angles riot in 1992. Although the major cause lies in the injustice of the local police system, it could have been more rational and understanding for those participants if they had learnt that there is no fundamental differences between themselves and the victims of their violences. Therefore, encouraging conformity would be necessary to maintain a healthy and hopeful society for the future generations.
To sum up, when the personal differences from others has been appreciated by the society, the person obtains self-confidence and self-esteem that would benefit both physically and psychologically. Nevertheless, encouraging too much individual diversity at the expense of conformity, will inevitably lead to serious social problems, disharmonies, and even endless riots, for the reason that unhealthy desire for social recognition would diminish the virtues, such as tolerate and understanding, upon which build our society.
