The article explains how when dealing with sports communication they always relate back to race. The study was to examine students and try to figure the response one might receive from the students from the role that was being portrayed. In this article sports consumption is explained. In this article Armstrong gives rise to the question, why do different races eat up the sports world in different ways and fashions? The article suggests that African Americans consume the sports world based on previous hardships. The article also suggests that Caucasian people eat up the sports world for the excitement of the game. The fact that women are raised to be "girly" and men are raised to be "manly" makes their eagerness and motivation different.

There is now talk of placing athletes in a comprehensive career planning intervention program before entering college to help with their career planning skills. The reason for implementing this program is due to the percentages that came from the study done. The study showed that a higher percentage of African American student athletes chose majors that had little or nothing to do with their chosen career path. The study also showed that more often than not African Americans had dreams of pro sport careers. The outcome of the study was the exact opposite when dealing with white student athletes. Most white student athletes chose majors that reflected their chosen career path and a low percentage had dreams of a pro sports career.

In this article the two authors conducted an experiment to back their feminist theory that racial differences in relation to sport participation and science leads to different outcomes in achievement and consequences. The study was done on African-American, White, and Hispanic teens in eighth grade and tenth grade. The results of the experiment showed that while competing in sports and enrollment in science courses had a somewhat negative impact on white and Hispanic teens and the exact opposite for the African-American girls. The study also showed that all three groups work toward success in the science courses in different ways and that participation in sports factors in to the equation. James, C.E. (2003).

In the article these athletes we restudied and their ability and drive to receive athletic scholarships to universities in the United States was measured. As a result of the study it was found that the African Canadian athletes felt that the only way to be able to attend school, a University is through an athletic scholarship. The fact that these kids compete so strenuously against each other for these chances to go to school and have a good career makes it all that harder to achieve such things. In many ways, the ways that the African Canadian students compete for scholarships are with the same intensity of those in the United States and this study and article confirms that theory.

As one might expect, African -Americans and Caucasians were looked at as on a different side of the fence, the significant other. White people were looked at as the silent other. A study was done to support the authors' theory of racism in sports. It was found that African-Americans are not the only race to experience prejudice in the sports world. In 1974 Hank Aaron surpassed on of the greatest baseball players of all time, Babe Ruth. That night in 1974 Aaron hit his 715th home run and past Babe right into history.

Aaron was undoubtedly one of the greats, though he had skill and knew the game of base ball he fell short of fan appeal. Racism had something to do with the fact that Aaron had been overlooked. He was faced with racism in the South but moved right through it. It wasn't until he inched closer and closer to the Babes record of 714 home runs that Hank felt the real rath of racism. He was sent 3,000 letters ad day. He practically needed a secretary to sort through the hate mail. Hank later after breaking the record which he still holds, commented on the letters saying, "they changed me". Now, a quarter of a century later Aaron says he still reads the letters sometimes, "they remind me of what people are really like".

In an episode recently aired on television, a scene with a naked white woman and a black football player in a locker room brought about complaints from viewers and the NFL as well. One NFL coach, a Tony Dungy, the coach of the Indianapolis Colts found it racially offensive. He feels that the stunt was done to get ratings.

He said that the scene was stereotyping athletes and that he hope that they will never be asked to be on "Monday night football again if this is the kind of material that will be shown for ratings.
