Jules Verne once imagined men going to the moon, traveling the solar system, exploring the sea in electronic submarines and traveling the world in 80 days. In modern times mankind has gone to the moon and back several times, scientists are exploring space through satellites, submarines have allowed us to explore and understand the once dark and mysterious sea, and any person can literally circle the globe in just 80 hours using commercial air flights. Indeed mankind has made great strides in the past century but none of that would have been possible without the imagination of great writers who inspired men to undertake such ventures. Students should be required to take a fine arts course as it would develop their creative thinking, would help build up their confidence, and would help them do better in courses like science and math. A fine arts course will help students learn to think creatively and teach them how to express themselves. In the arts students will learn to express themselves and their ideas through art, sculpture, body movements and speech.

The arts foster creative thinking as students are encouraged to come up with their own interpretations of emotions, ideas, and events. Students are not just graded on what they can remember and spew back at the teacher but on how well they can develop and express their own ideas. In the fine arts class students need not have prior knowledge of equations or formulas to understand the complexity of human thought and emotion. This levels the "playing field" for all students and builds up the confidence of students who might have trouble in other classes because they " re not good at remembering and computing formulas. It also gives confidence to students who are generally shy as they learn that there are other forms they can use to express themselves. In classes such as drama students can learn the eloquence and confidence necessary to give speeches.

In art they can learn to appreciate the beauty of emotions, objects, and the world in general. In dance they can learn to be coordinated and graceful in their body movements. Confidence is important in any student's life as it can mean the difference between trying harder and giving up when confronted with challenges whether in school or life. The confidence and skills students acquire in a fine arts course will aid them in other courses they are required to take.

For example, it has been scientifically proven that students who know how to play an instrument do overall much better in math than those who don't. Also, there have been many studies claiming that listening to classical music for an hour can raise your IQ 15 points temporarily. More proof that being disciplined in the fine arts can aid students in other pursuits is the famous Leonardo Da Vinci who is well known not just for his Mona Lisa but also for his studies and sketches in engineering which have been the inspirations for helicopters, bicycles and even military tanks. Einstein himself said it best when he said "Imagination is more important than knowledge".

The fine arts are very important and are equally important for students to learn as science. The arts and science are the yin and yang of the human mind and must co-exist in order for mankind to progress. One of the reasons Leonardo Da Vinci's art was so revered was that he used his knowledge of science to improve his artwork by studying nature, human anatomy, and light versus shadow. Other artists such as Picasso and Cezanne have used optical devices to create projections which they used to produce their art. Science cannot progress without the art to inspire it and art is reduced to one-dimensional simplicity without science to develop it.
