Adam Abernethy Why is it exactly that we need to beg for money? Simple, its human nature to have a craving for material objects and to do the things that require money. Some of those things that we crave to do depend entirely on the person. That aside, it's because we spend it way too fast and don't make enough of it. No one does. So, how exactly do we get to enjoy the finer things in life just like our neighbors, friends, and family?

It's very easy, which is why an extensive manual on the topic is only 10 pretty pages. We beg for or borrow the money. That's the big secret folks. Another way of retrieving small amounts of free cash is borrowing money.

Now this one you really have to be careful but all of that will be discussed in a later chapter. Whether Begging or Borrowing the facts remain the same. You need money, you don't want to work for it, and you have justified in your head that you may or may not pay them back already. You also have to deal with one or more of the following problems every time you get your money: - Excessive spending (Hey, this $22 box of KD looks good) - Overgenerous (Giving $10 to a waitress who brought you a Coke) - Frequently Missed shifts / Few hours / Unemployed ($26 paychecks don't go far, do they?) - Drinking / Smoking / Substance Habits (Did I put the disclaimer about how I don't support everything in here?) THE The shortest distance between any two points is a straight line, the healthiest way to get somewhere is walk, and the cheapest route to any fun is definitely through the wallets of others. We have to keep in mind that nothing illegal should be done while reading this manual. Well, here are some instructions on finding the cheapest route to doing whatever your doing.

Are you going somewhere that sells goods? Yes No Do you have these goods at home? Do they sell a service? Yes No Yes No Can you sneak them in to your destination? Can you get them somewhere else for cheaper?

Can you Do it yourself? Can you see any way yourself to make this trip cheaper? YES? NO You " re good to go! You " re screwed, sorry pal EVEN THE PROS NEED HELP Yes, we " re all going to do be doing it at some point or another.

We may as well, have some useful tools underneath our belts to bail us out in the quickest and most painless. Nothing hurts more than asking someone for a buck or two and getting a no. So, here are a few general rules. More specific rules will follow in the next few chapters on dealing with mooching from specific people. TIP: The whole 'sob story' approach never works. REASON: We " ve all seen it before, especially in bigger cities.

Trying to look desperate almost makes it fun in a sadistic way to NOT give you money. People are much more likely to give you money if it looks like you " ve got cash, just not on you. TIP: Try not to hit up the same people all the time REASON: If there's enough people around your school / office /workplace, you should try and space it out so you can ask a different few people every 3 or 4 weeks as that's roughly how long it takes for people to forget, this way you can be asking to 'borrow' money as opposed to free money. That means you only need about 4 people a week day, so 4 strangers x 15-20 days equals somewhere between 60 and 80 people in a place makes 1 good beggars heaven. TIP: NEVER ASK YOUR BOYFRIEND / GIRLFRIEND/SPOUSE / 'LIFE PARTNER' FOR MONEY!!

REASON: These are the people that you are trying to conceal the fact that you have no money from!! Besides they know where you live, they know you " re phone number, where you hang out, where you HIDE, and they can punish you a lot worse than your friends can. I just wouldn't push this one. BEGGING Begging is where you simply want the money for free. You aren't going to return it, you aren't going to work for it, and they definitely don't owe you anything. It is a technique that requires a lot of skill, and is difficult to master but there are those who are extremely talented.

We call the professionals 'Mooches'. BORROWING Borrowing is slightly less moral than begging because it generally involves lying. Not that I care, but some people might. Usually, it involves walking up to someone who still has a small amount of trust in you and then telling them that if they gave you some cash right now, then you can pay them back in a bit. Well, if you " ve mastered begging than you can avoid the lying and still save some of your trust for when you really need it.

As well, if you have this manual, then you know damn well yourself that your never going to have the cash to pay them back anyways. Here we are, the biggest, best and most trusted money-giving industry in the entire field. The bank of mom / dad is by far the best depository of cash you will ever come across. Remember that. But, they are always ways to stretch it as far as we can go. So here is how this is going to work. Take one of the excuses from the following list. If they have to go out of their way (i.e. Run to a bank machine) to give you money, you " re almost definitely getting a no. Unless you know, they " re cheque book is around, stick with what's in they " re wallet. I would highly suggest taking a peek before you even ask for cash. DON'T: Try any sort of guilt-trip excuse on your parents if you know that they don't care. Why: Your parents weren't born last night.

In fact, they have an advantage, they had begged for money from their parents, and even succeeded back when the strap was still a popular form of discipline. They also have a few more years experience in this world than you do. Nothing is worse than getting busted for trying to pull heartstrings when asking for money. You will get a huge no, and may even blow your chances for a little while.

It's really close on the scale to getting caught stealing. Yeah, I would simply not chance it with this one. DON'T: Ask for money from your parents when they " re mad Why: Dumb question. When you " re angry, is your first priority to give something away and be really nice to someone around you?

Didn't think so. This one really requires some real consoling skills, and then try again in a few minutes. Your friends are a lot like your parents when it comes to begging for money. You just have to get rid of a few excuses out of the book, but also you get to add some way better ones into the picture. Just remember, that generally your friends know your economic standing better than your parents. They usually know when your payday is better, they also know most of the people that you already owe money and they are going to be slightly less forgiving on always forking money over to you.

So, I will give you a new excuse chart. Some are strikingly similar to the ones with parents, but others are very different. Remember all the times I've given you money! Oh yeah, you weren't there, but still. I just signed up for Gamblers Anonymous. But still, how about a little recovery hand? Your parents always hand over the cash, my parents are so stingy man.

Can't you just help a buddy out? Remember how many drinks I bought you on your birthday!? I've been broke since, man. I have to take this real cute guy / girl out tonight, hoping you could help me out This is the last time.

(You can say something like 'I swear' or something here, but I'd save the broken promises for borrowing) You know for a fact, I'd do the same for you.
