I applied each and every theory to my life. Amazingly all these ideas were exactly applicable. Perception checking is one of the things that I believe the most. As I looked back, I found tones of different times where I could have used perception checking to over come my problems. While interviewing Atif Alam about the team work that is done at his work place and he replayed some very obvious answer and all his experience in work were the same as we have discussed in our class discussion. But there was another point that I felt was very important appreciation of ideas inside the group.
According to Atif there should enough appreciation fro your, so that a person should feel that he is appropriate for the group. The value of dual prospective: Some time some approach to solve some problems are totally opposite, But people think that is the right solution. I want to explain this with my life experience. Last year I was working for a company as a programmer, while writing some application for that company I came across a problem. I talked my boss about that problem he take the program code from me and ask my college to fix that problem, and he fixed that problem. But that was not the solution because he produced some security holes in the system after checking it.
I talked to my boss that if that program is working or not. I replayed by saying that it is working. My boss said that there is no problem in the program. It is only u that doesn't know about the programming that was the time when I feel really very bad.
In the class when we were talking about the story (page 107). It remind of that experience that I had last year. Synergy: During the time when I was leading a term of IT people for the company that I work for, I experienced this problem a lot, and that was group, But I was use to work in team and to divide the work among all my team members according to the ability. I use to assign the most difficult job to the most experienced person and the easiest to the newly hired.
The biggest problem in this method was that we were always late in our project. That creates a very bad effect of me on my boss. As one day I was discussing this problem with my Dad who was working for Government form and has 37 years experience in management. The first thing he asked me was my strategy of my work in my team. I explain the scenario to him. My dad showed me really easy solution for that.
He said start dividing work among the group of people like assign part of work to two or three people and try to keep inexperienced people with experienced one because some time a new person know more than the previous one. While sharing problems with all the team members. I worked upon this suggestion and the results were dramatic and we finished our project before time and I was very happy because of this situation. My approach towards team management was different. I thought if gave freedom to all the team members, that will increase the production. After that incident I was still wondering why it is so?
But, during the class discussion, when teacher showed us an example, where he put one group as individuals to solve the problem and others other as a group. So the result was crystal clear. Then I understood the phenomenon. While my other problem is that I gave the total freedom to my team members, but am thinking that there should be some boundaries. According to Klapp (1978):" The believe that openness is always good and closeness is always bad in a faculty one".
Communication differences in gender: This is the only theory that I agree with some points and disagree with some points. According to our class discussion females are not very practical, I disagree with this idea because from my life experience, it depends upon the person. Some girls think really practical like a girl who use to work with me. Was batter then any other person on our team and her thoughts were really high.
But on the other hand I agree with the idea that all the girls have same way of communication and too much to talk about when there is no need. Like this girls, she was really different but the way she use to talk was some times obnoxious, she always have some thing to talk about. I think that is not the problem it's the nature and the reason why people don't like women communication because the lawmakers of the world are men and they don't like female personality. So they are considered non-practical.
Information Seeking Interview: For my interview I selected Atif Alam how is working as Web Architect in a company Total Quality Services, in Ogden. The reason why I selected Atif was that he recently joined this company, so he might have some comments about working in team or trying get in to team. And his field also the same as mine, that is computer science. I planned to ask following equations: . How hard is it getting into work team for the first time and try to coordinate? How did you managed to fit your self into the team?
Is there any assigned leader of the team or some one being knowledgeable is pretending to a leader? Is there any female in the team? If yes, what's his experience about her and what is the attitude of the male members towards her ideas? Did you ever have to problem of perception?
If yes, then how did u dealt with it? How about using the perception checking strategies mentioned in our course? What do u thinks about Synergy? After interviewing Atif and attending the class I believe all the theories about communications are true and applicable to all the models of communication.
