Attentiveness To Erin's Children example essay topic
George's self-orientation changes when he put himself in the position that demands attentiveness to Erin's children. Before he got shot down by Erin the first night they saw each other, George just moved beside her and spent most of his time working on his motorcycle. His job allowed him to have time off and work when he needed and when he was outside when Erin's sitter dumped her kids off early; George was the only one around to take responsibility for them, so he barbeque d dinner for the kids. This changed his ego to be dependent upon the ability to respond to people instead of the pressures for self-directed achievement. This change in sex roles only reinforces society's new trend toward greater self-orientation, so men and women both get the same narcissistic behavior and encourages either to give attention.
Erin knows she is not a part of a privileged economic class structure, but a subordinate class where the normal mind state is of uncertainty about their own worth; this lowers their capacity to assert themselves and claim greater attention. This doesn't hold true for Erin because she has a very strong will to pursue what she desires or needs to survive, so her individualism is developed better than those of normal mind states because of her self-interested behavior. For the scene that had the lawsuit filed by the town of Hinkley against Pacific Gas & Electric, the court ordered that. ".. each of the 84 motions to strike and immerse are denied and the causes of action of Pacific Gas are upheld". The judge added his feeling of disturbance when informed of the reference to evidence that suggests that xe valium-chromium was used in Hinkley's drinking water, but also that the clients actually sent pamphlets to the residents saying the water was good for them. The people were all being diagnosed with different cancers at very spread out ages that were causing treatments to extend life as long as possible since death was eminent.
After the decision from the court had been rendered the two sides were able to come together and make a deal fair for every plaintiff. Erin had been intimidated by the defense lawyers, but was able to use her voice of discourse to humiliate and scare them, which caused them to feel extremely ashamed and powerless. The lawyers had not left themselves with any real loopholes to get themselves out of having some sort of an excuse for their piddly back In this entire movie and particular scene there was a whole company breaking the law, which classifies them into the category of corporate crime. Corporate crime definitely refers to deliberately polluting the environment. Most cases go unpunished and when they are accused of wrongdoing, however, they usually have the resources to fight back. But in this situation, something of complete corruptness and cover-up was uncovered by a smart, hardworking do-anything single mom working in a lawyer's office.
Erin assumed an achieved status when she became an employee who uncovered a huge crime and she followed the entire process of reimbursement suing the particular company at fault. The scene when Erin comes home after a long, well-accomplished day, she finds George, her live-in boyfriend / nanny, sitting on her bed with a jewelry box and a packed bag, so she knows whatever it is, it isn't going to be good. She is not expecting his question she is faced with of having to decide whether or not she wants a different job or a different guy because only one can be in her life. George explains that he bought a pair of earrings that he saw would be perfect for Erin's beautiful ears, but was going to wait for the next time she did or said something nice for him to give them to her, which had been six months, so things had to be changed in order for their relationship to work out. Erin had a dilemma and did not like being put in that situation because her job had been something rare to her because it brings her success and recognition having people who value her and what she has to say. Erin resents that he asks about what her kids and him are giving up for her job because she has. ".. bent her life around what men decide they need, well not now, I'm sorry.
I won't do it!" she says to George. She knows she's doing more for her kids than when she was living with her parents and that one day they will understand. George needs to know what else he can do to prove he is not like those other men, so Erin tells him that to do that he has to stay and not abandon her and her kids. He says, "What for? ... hmm, you got a raise, you can afford daycare, you don't need me".
He felt that since he isn't a biological father and actually is in it for a relationship then he isn't being treated as if a part of anything. Erin is using him, so he is having to bend his entire life around her and her needs. She doesn't even realize she is putting demands on him to do what she is dead against ever doing again, so why shouldn't George be fed up with her. Since men have traditionally dominated attention because of their monopolization of important issues of power researchers have seen that males gain attention by virtue of a patriarchal division of roles, so women are left with the ones demanding attention-giving. This tradition held for awhile, until Erin hit rock bottom and was desperate for some kind of income. After her persistent efforts to reach Mr. Massery, her lawyer who assured her of a strong case and let it fall through, Erin went to the office and harshly attacked then later pleaded for a job.
Undoubtably she humiliated him into hiring her. The last scene involves Erin's boss coming to her office asking her to take care of a box of files and asks where a co-worker Anna is to open up a file for him, but Erin informed her she was out to lunch with the girls. Mr. Massery told her since she is a girl why isn't she out to lunch with them, so Erin told him that she must not be the right type of girl. He turned back with reluctance, but said that since she was working in his office that she should rethink her wardrobe, so she replied she thought she looked nice. That settled it until Erin also said that Mr. Massery should reconsider his ties while he walked away. To be a self-oriented individual, Erin shows the necessity of achieving self-sufficiency economically and socially, and also the imperative of demonstrating uniqueness and special merit as an individual.
