While reading the prophecies, Aureliano discovers the mystery of the family. For instance, the author says, 'Before reading the final line, however, he had already understood that he would never leave that room, for it was foreseen that the city of mirrors (or mirages) would be wiped out by the wind and exiled from the memory of men at the precise moment when Aureliano Babilonia would finish deciphering the parchments, and that everything written on them was unrepeatable since time immemorial and forever more, because races condemned to one hundred years of solitude did not have second opportunity on earth' (Marquez 448). Aureliano will now suffer forever and never leave Macondo. The beginning of the town of Macondo started out bad because of the decisions made from the family. Every generation from then on repeated the mistakes made from the first. The cycle repeated for six generations before anyone was able to decipher the prophecies made by Melquiedes in the first generation. By the time they were deciphered it was too late and he would be condemned forever.
