In the 2001/2, BHASVIC had another successful season. This was our second season in the National Academies League, and we were able to improve upon our mid-table league position from the previous year, to runner-ups. This in it-self was a fantastic achievement bearing in mind the quality of the opposition. The winners were Cirencester, who have been national cup champions for four out of the five previous seasons.

However, with the strength of the squad we possesses, there is a real chance of us winning the title next year! We have already arranged as part of our pre-season programme for 2002/3, friendlies against Brighton and Hove Albion Under 18's and Bristol City Under 19's. This season was also highlighted with some major individual successes. For the third year in a row, BHASVIC had a student who represented his country. Both Lee Newman and Liam O'Brien were selected for English Colleges, (although Liam never played due to injury) and Lee actually scored in a 5-1 win over Welsh Colleges at Yeovil. At county representative level, thirteen players represented Sussex 'A' or 'B' in inter-county tournaments, and for next year, Matt Simpson, Scott Kirkwood and Shaheen Sa dough have been put forward for a weeks coaching with the national squad (schools) at Keele University in August.

We eagerly await next season! Girls Football Our girls team have acquired a new Brighton and Hove Albion kit and appropriately renamed themselves the 'BHASVIC Seagulls. ' There is a weekly training session on Wednesday afternoon plus the team plays occasional matches both at home and away. The team competes every year in the girls' football tournament held at Varndean in April.

Several players are on their way up through the Albion Youth team ranks, which is no mean feat as the Albion Ladies' team have just been promoted to the AXA FA Women's Premier League and are now playing the likes of Arsenal, Everton and Leeds Utd! The emphasis in girls' football is very much on fitness and fun and players of all levels and abilities are welcome to come along to our training session held on Wednesday afternoons. BHASVIC 2nd XI 2001/2 As in the previous year the College second team played in the First Division of the County League playing the first team of other schools and colleges. We began well by beating Littlehampton, Steyn ing, local rivals Varndean, Chichester High and particularly, an away win at a very physical Chichester Tech.

By this time we had developed a settled side and were playing open attractive football and this was particularly evident in a comfortable win at Kings Manor. We had reached Christmas unbeaten. It seems that the extended break did us no favours at all as we last badly at Worthing which left us needing to beat Colliers to qualify for the playoffs. However we were unable to do so and the season ended on a flat note. Special mention should be made of the contribution of captain Joel Harding who played in virtually every game, developed into an expert goal scorer and was regularly our best player. BHASVIC 2 ND XI West This season can be summed up as " a bit of a Chelsea year": lots of talent, winning most of our game, scoring lots of goals, but not winning any trophies, unlike last year.

In the County 2nd XI League, we won six, drew one and lost one. We scored 19 goals and conceded only four. In four of our five victories we scored four or more goals. This record took us through to the play off quarter finals which we won.

However, in the semi-finals we met our nemesis in the form of the eventual winners BHASVIC 2nd XI East, who beat us 2-1 on a windswept day in February. In the County Cup competition we had less success, with our depleted team losing to Thomas Sackville school in the first round. Something of a Cup upset! Player of the year: Joe Keith, for his non-stop running, tackling and enthusiasm, for doing a sound job as captain, and for scoring an excellent goal in the play off semi final.

BHASVIC COLLEGE 2 XI East Bhasvic's 4th XI football team ended a remarkable season by completing the treble winning the East Sussex County League, The County Cup and The League Cup. This was mainly due to the fantastic attitude displayed by the team throughout the whole season. Many a time we have come back from behind, including both cup finals, which we won in extra time against a team that was supposed to be a lot stronger than ourselves. There are too many players who excelled to list down but Craig Salvage played a true captain's role throughout, always encouraging and leading by example.
