Birth Of My Brother Kevin example essay topic
On the way to St. Mary's Hospital I was barely awake but my adrenaline kept me there. It was only 8: 30 PM but my bed time was 7: 00 PM so I was up late in my current standards. The ride only took about twenty minutes, which to me seemed like an eternity because no one was speaking. All I wished to do, was to be present for the birth of my younger brother who was to be named Kevin Edward Bau miller.
Finally, we had reached the hospital and quickly unloaded. My mother and father had already been at the hospital for about two hours because my mother went into labor around 5: 30 PM. My Aunt Tammie held my hand while my older brother Jason walked beside me when we entered the Maternity section of the hospital. First, we met up with my father who told my aunt something which was inaudible to myself. Afterwards he escorted myself and Jason into a waiting room and prepared to talk to us. Jason seemed to be more calm than I, which I expected but I figured I was in for the ride.
My father started by informing me that this was going to become my first day as an older brother and that I had the responsibility of watching over him and setting a good example for him to follow. This seemed very interesting to me because I have always looked up to my older brother and wished I could do the same thing as him. Later, I actually got to see my mother. She was propped upon a table with her spread legs open. At the time I had no idea how babies came into the world so I was curious very to find out. When I spoke to my mother she had a machine hooked up to her showing her vital stats and she also had her friend Connie D'Antonio next to her followed by a nurse and a doctor who I later read his name tag to be Dr. J. Trabin.
Dr. J. Trabin asked my mother if she wished for me to see the birth of my brother Kevin and she said that she not want me present. So Mrs. D'Antonio handed me a watch and said "Here Jeffrey, when this watch beeps, you may come back to the room to see your new little baby brother". Leaving the room with mixed feelings of excitement and annoyance, because I believed I was of age to witness a birth, I walked into the waiting room. There was a nurse that was there that gave me a pillow if I wanted to sleep, but I was notably scared because I was alone in the room. She gave me a small cup of orange juice while I sat in silence and stared at the watch in my hands wondering how I could make it beep earlier than it was set. There was a TV present and it was playing the movie Batman, but I had no interest in it whatsoever.
I did not recollect falling asleep but I must have because it was the beeping of the watch that stirred my thoughts around a quarter til midnight. As I walked with my brother Jason, who too fell asleep in the waiting room after I had, I was excited to see my new brother Kevin. When I entered the room everyone was gathered around my mother who was holding Kevin within her arms. "Look at his beautiful blue eyes" and "He has the cutest smile I've ever seen" were only a few of the numerous things I heard my relatives say that night. Soon, after everybody in the room had their share of holding Kevin for the first or even the second time, the people started to thin out when people would start their way home. My father asked me if I wanted to spend the night at the hospital with my mother and Kevin, which I gladly agreed to.
That night I slept soundly knowing that now, I get to be a big brother that someone looks up to.
