620 words
After 1760 many American colonists were concerned with the actions taken by Great Britain. Due to problems with the colonists and the economy Great Britain issues laws and taxes such as the Stamp Tax, the Tea Act, and the Intolerable Acts. Americans showed strong resentment to British rule and finally fought against it. Protests and action taken against the British government eventually led to the American Revolution in 1774. American colonists did not stand for unfair treatment and they showed this in their actions. One of the first British Acts installed was the Stamp Act in 1765.

It seemed that Great Britain just wanted to get more money out of the colonies so they started a tax on all legal documents. Americans were furious because they could not receive certain documents or mail letters without paying money to the mother country. As a result of the tax Americans beat up the tax collectors that came to get their money and refused to pay any money at all. Because the tax did not work Great Britain repealed the Stamp Act and found other ways to get their money. In the early 1770's the East India Company was in trouble with debt and needed as much help as they could get. To help out a friend and receive money as well Britain issued a tax on Tea.

They only sold the East India Company tea and created a monopoly in Massachusetts. They only had Boston Harbor import this certain tea with the tax on it. This meant that all Americans that wanted to drink tea had to purchase from that one company and pay an extra fee for the sales tax. American colonists were upset with the tax because they could not drink anything else besides alcohol. Nobody wants to be intoxicated all the time so they were stuck paying more money for tea.

To deal with the problem, colonists dressed as Native Americans and burglarized the East India Company's factory. After stealing boxes upon boxes of tea the colonists commandeered a ship and the harbor and dumped the tea off. This made the British government furious and the colonists were in for a rude awakening. To deal with the colonists who were clearly out of control, Great Britain issued the Intolerable Acts in 1774. To punish the colony of Massachusetts they closed down Boston Harbor and took away the ruling power of the Massachusetts government.

By closing the harbor, many colonists were forced out of jobs and could no longer find employment. They were all out of luck because the government of the colony could no longer help with employment problems. Americans were furious because the most important colony of America went belly up and could no longer support any of the other colonists of Massachusetts. Trade was eliminated and people could no longer receive the necessities.

To fight back Americans formed a congress and began contemplating on what to do. Finally it lead to the battle at Lexington and Concorde and "The shot heard around the world". After two years of fighting the American Revolution, Americans received what they wanted. They gained their independence. America was a free country and they no longer had to deal with the rule of a mother country. In conclusion American colonists had to deal with the harsh and unruly treatments of Great Britain for several years.

After numerous protests and a two year Revolution they gained the independence they yearned for. They formed a democratic government and ruled themselves since 1776.
