The Herrick family had their hands on everything so Robert really could have decided on almost what ever he wants. In 1607 he was apprenticed to his uncle Sir William Herrick as a goldsmith. Robert always knew that it was a good business because it gold never gets old. Herrick always had a love for writing and he knew since he was really young that he wanted to pursue it eventually. Herrick attended St. John's College, Cambridge in 1613. Robert graduated a Bachelor of Arts in 1617, and Master of Arts in 1620.
Robert felt that going to school can be a tremendous help for him. He now feels that he is ready to pursue his poetry writing professionally. Herrick lived a secluded country life and wrote some of his best works.
In 1647 he was expelled from the government. Robert decided to move to London publishing his religious poems. Robert Herrick lived to the age of eighty-three. This girl he describes has cheated on him two times before but he is willing to give her one more chance. Herrick really just had a thing for this woman.
Herrick feels that they should get married before it's to late. He doesn't want to get any older before death will take over and they will regret it. Robert wants the vows to stay true, she has cheated on him in the past so the vows are extremely important to him. If you break a promise you will never gain his trust back. As you can see Robert in a certain way is good with forgiveness.
Herrick was a really religious man so he feels everyone makes a mistake and is willing to accept that. Herrick feels if you get a third chance and you don't respect it then let g-d help you. If the woman cheats on him the third time he will never help her again. Then if it happens no one will like you at all, no man will go next to a girl that has cheated on a man more than two times.
