Brain's Nerve Cells example essay topic
This disease has become widely know by many people. In the 1900 the average American was forty-nine years old, so very few people were diagnosis ed with it. Few lived long enough to develop symptoms. As people grow older today the risk for developing is greater.
Many illnesses and diseases are named after the doctor or scientist that discovered them. Alheimers is no exception. It's discovery in 1907 is credited to a German neuro pathologist and clinician, Dr. A. Alheimer. He was the first to describe the gradual mental decline of a forty nine year old women when he did an autopsy of her brain to find the causes of her confusion and memory loss. Dr. Alheimer felt that this women's brain had aged before her body; seeing the increase in confusion and dementia. During the autopsy Dr alzheimer found abnormal deposits of protein both inside and outside of the brain's nerve cells.
He called these abnormalities plaques, they were twisted and deformed through out the brain. The brain is a super computer and many times taken for granted until untill one looses grasp on it. Before looking at an alzheimer brain understanding the basics of a normal brain is important. The brain has special nerve cells called neurons to help it communicate with the rest of the body and keep it functioning properly. These cells need nutrients, support and protection to function and th ta is given to them by cells. The brain had's chemical mess angers called neurotransmitters and they can either speed up or slow down the brain activity.
The coordination of these millions of cells is essential for everything we do. Plaques and tangles occur in normal brains but not the extreme that they do in the brain of an alzheimer's' patient's brain. Abnormal protein build up in brain cells seems to be the most common in Alzheimer patient brains. Plaques build up outside of the nerve cells and develop in memory, thinking and decision -making centers of the brain. Today different medications or used to treat patients with ' from anti-depressants, vitamins, nutrition's supplements and hormone replacement. Rather thant trying to cover up the fact that you have Alheimers's use it to your advantage. have the courage to tell people about your disease so they can support you and better understand your changes.
Striving to keep our loved ones alert, witty and ever so wise until the end is a desire of us all, because of the thorn in the garden of life Alzheimer's strikes and we must smell all flowers till the end.
