Brownback Ban On Human example essay topic

343 words
Your help is needed right now to pressure the U.S. Senate to pass the Brownback ban on human cloning. Recent news reports of scientists trying to create human babies through the process of cloning have driven home the need to enact a ban on human cloning as soon as possible. Already, the U.S. House of Representatives has passed a bill prohibiting human cloning for any purpose. However, a similar bill has encountered fierce resistance in the Senate. Not only is Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle preventing a vote on the bill - sponsored by Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kan. - but other senators have introduced competing bills that would not ban all forms of cloning. Right now, the Senate is almost evenly split between the Brownback human cloning ban, and competing versions that would not ban human cloning. However, about 25 senators have yet to declare a position on either bill. Your help is desperately needed to pressure the Senate to pass the Brownback human cloning ban so that it can go on to President Bush, who has pledged to sign it. TAKE ACTION While many senators have pledged their support for the Brownback-Landrieu cloning bill, others have not announced their position on the bill. Therefore, please contact your two U.S. senators and urge them to: "support the Brownback human cloning ban, S. 1899" (make sure your senator understands that you want him or her to support ONLY the Brownback ban, because any other version does not ban human cloning); and pressure Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle to bring the bill to the floor for a vote.
