Brutus And Julius Caesar example essay topic

Flattery Lots of characters in the play Julius Caesar flattered someone or were flattered themselves. Those who flattered others used flattery to further themselves and others through the entire play. Even though there were many examples of this throughout the play, I am going to use two of the main examples, Brutus and Julius Caesar. First, Cassius furthered Brutus into joining the conspiracy.

One way Cassius got Brutus to join the conspiracy was by telling him to weigh the names Brutus and Caesar, they both hold equal weights. Then, he asked if one of the names was fonder to the ear than the other, yet he insisted that they were still the same. Another way Cassius persuaded Brutus to join the conspiracy was to write letters and strategically place them so that Brutus would find them and read them. These are just a few ways Cassius flattered Brutus. In addition to flattered by Cassius, Brutus was also flattered by Antony. Antony flattered Brutus by praising him and the conspirators for their nobility.

Brutus made the mistake of trusting Antony and letting him speak at Caesar's funeral. Antony then betrayed Brutus' trust by making a mockery of the conspirators. Finally, another man that was swayed by flattery was Julius Caesar himself. He was almost dead set in his ways that he was not going to the senate, until the conspirators arrived and started talk that the people of Rome would give him a crown and make him ruler over all of Rome's territories. They changed his mind, he never lived to regret his mistake.

Flattery can be one of the only things that can bring up a person's self esteem. Unfortunately, it can also lead to an untimely death. It all comes down to that old clich'e, too much of a good thing can kill you.
