Schindler's List A Report By: Sun lilly In the beginning of the movie I thought that Oskar Schindler was a "bad guy" because he was a member of the Nazi party. After awhile though it becomes apparent that he isn't. The movie begins with September of 1939 when German forces defeated the Polish army. Jews are coming from everywhere leaving their homes to relocate in major cities and register their families as ordered. As things progressively get worse the Jews are forced from heir homes into ghettos where many people share one room. The people who are not Jewish throw mud at them and act hatefully toward them as they watch them leave.

Schindler appears to be looking for people to start up a new business of making enamelware cookery. He gets money to start up the business from Jews. The money has little value for them in the ghetto where there is nothing to buy. Schindler hires Jews for his company because they cost less then Polish workers. His wife comes home to visit him. He tells her about how successful his company is.

He had started with nothing and made a lot of money. A man with only one arm comes to Schindler's office to thank him for the job. Schindler gets mad because he thinks that this man can't do much useful work. The next day on their way to work the Jews are stopped to shovel snow. Some Nazi's notice the man who is missing an arm and think that he is worthless and kill him. Schindler gets mad about this and demands to be compensated for his dead worker saying that he was important when earlier he thought not.

Itzhak Stern his accountant, the one who pretty much runs his company, is gathered onto a train with other Jews (probable going to a labor or concentration camp). Schindler goes very much out of his way to get him back. The Nazi's took all the Jews possessions to use and sell. A Jewish engineer speaks up and explains to the Nazi officers that the foundation was laid wrong and will have to be done over. They shoot her for saying something and then do as she said they should. Then the Nazis storm in a Jewish ghetto taking all their valuables.

They swallow diamonds and rings to keep it from them. The Nazis then chase the out of their home and separate the men and women to send to camps. They kill anyone who tries to run. People hid everywhere to get away; it surprised me where they could fit a person. A woman came to Schindler to have him take in her parents as workers.

She had heard that the place for his workers was a haven. After being upset about it for a while he found her parents and hired them, even though they had no important skills. Much later in the movie all the Jews are being sent to death camps. Desperately trying to save them Schindler pays a lot of money to set up his own camp.

Then he starts to make bullets and shells for the war, because he doesn't want Germany to win he makes every thing faulty. For seven months he does this until the war is over. His efforts made him nearly bankrupt. The 1,100 and more Jews he had saved are now free because the war is over and he must go into hiding for he might be punished for war crimes. The Jews thank him and make him a ring from the silver from Itzhak Stern's tooth, which had to be pulled (Ouch! ).

On it was inscribed, "Whoever saves one life, saves the world entire" in Hebrew. He breaks down crying saying he had had enough money to save more people and feels guilty because he didn't. This shows how much he cared. After this he was rewarded for his good actions, though it took a while. The last scene is some of the Jews he saved visiting his grave. I thought this was a good movie.

It was very informative and even had important things show up in text to tell you what had happened historically. Most importantly it was based on a true story. It showed how awful the Jews really were treated and shows you some of the fear and pain they went through. I think it is scary to see how badly people can treat one another.
