Carnegie And Rockefeller example essay topic

266 words
Andrew Carnegie and John D. Rockefeller were captains of industries. They helped America become what it is today. They developed company's and industries that impacted the 20th and the 21st Century in such a way that it changed our ideas of management and supply and demand. Though they may have paid their "help" low wages, at the time they thought that it was a fair amount. They provided an outlook of industries that were almost unheard of in that time. Though many might have seen Rockefeller as a ruthless businessman who would stop at nothing to achieve great wealth, I disagree simply because he helped us so much later on in life.

In the late 19th century the oil industry was a free-for-all, the law of the jungle ruled. Rockefeller used this individual freedom to pursue several extremely successful and deceitful tactics to accumulate capital. Carnegie was seen as a captain of industry though and he stood up to that name in ever way. In 1899, when Carnegie consolidated his interests in the Carnegie Steel Company, he controlled about 25 percent of the American iron and steel production. In 1901 he sold his company to the United States Steel Corp. for $250 million and retired.

Two men in America have changed our way of thinking and our way of industrializing, that to me is Amazing! Carnegie and Rockefeller were great men and though many didn't know who they were the are still part of our history and deserve credit that they obviously didn't recieve.
