The government can also be blamed for the growing poverty in the country. Inefficiency and corruption of the bureaucracy, war threats leads to greater expenditure on defense. The problem of poverty can be partially tackled by welfare-government programmes that provides money, food and other necessities to the old, sick and others who cannot support their family on their current income. Although these programmes aid the needy they have been criticized on a number of grounds. Firstly, they are expensive and put pressure on the national economy. Secondly, there are a number of people who claim aid even though their salaries are sufficient for the maintenance of their families.

The problem of poverty can be tackled by the government. The government should create more jobs so as to reduce the number of people living below the poverty line. Military expenditure needs to be reduced and the money should be spent on socio-economic developments. Adoption of these measures can lead to the successful alleviation of poverty in the country.
