Causes Of The American Revolution example essay topic

358 words
Many historians believe that the American Revolution was caused by economics, when in fact that was only one of the reasons. The causes of the American Revolution were economics, politics, and social. None of these alone were the cause, but together they influenced the American Revolution. The British began taxing the colonies in 1764 with a tax known as the Sugar Act. This tax was followed the Stamp Act. These taxes would make an impact on all that they bought and also on documents.

The people began to protest that it was not right to tax them when they had no representation for the colonies in Parliament. They formed what was known as the Sons of Liberty, led by prominent citizens to form and fight against these taxes. Without representation in Parliament, the colonies had no input into the rules and regulation made by the British. Many of the settlers left England for America for Political Freedom to begin with, so they were totally against the control that England was enforcing on them.

Even if they had representation, they would not have had enough influence to change the control that England had over them. Britain's control over the social life of the colonies also influenced why the American Revolution occurred. One of the main events was the Quartering Act that followed the Sugar Act. This forced colonists to provide British troops with housing and supplies. Also, the Proclamation of 1763 was enacted.

This act prohibited colonist from settling west of the Appalachian Mountains. This was viewed as another form of control that was not right. The slogan "No taxation without representation" was that, just a slogan, but not the real cause. The real cause was the fact that the colonies had been living free from British control for over 100 years, and now the British wanted to control them. They tried to do this by taxing them, making rules for them to live by, both socially and with demographic boundaries.

These events combined led to the Revolutionary War..
