Just a little bit of Music, What's the big deal? A student is walking down the hall at his school listening to one of his favorite songs in his brand new CD player and singing the lyrics in his mind. He turns to the left and he is face to face with the school principal who looks at him with that face that says "Oh boy, are we in BIG trouble?" . He looks fondly at his CD player maybe for the last time and he hands it to the principal, who says "NO CD PLAYERS ALLOWED!" . The boy looks sad as he walks away with it, and partly blames himself for it. He wishes that regulation could be a little more flexible.

CD players should be allowed when students are not in a classroom, but in between them and during lunch. The main reasons for this are that students can be relaxed, reduces negative feelings toward teachers, CD players are not dangerous, and students can feel more comfortable with them at school Some students feel more relaxed when they listen to music, which puts them at ease and makes them be more focused and concentrated before going to their next class. If a student has a presentation or a big test, a little bit of music before the class might help him to feel more secure or more confident so he does not do poorly in his work or assignment. Most students, especially high school students are under much pressure during their last four years at school before college. They occasionally feel they cannot live up to their teachers' expectations but music helps them to decrease the stress and makes them have a more calm mind to set out to work. Listening to music can ease the understanding of new material and the frustration over assignments.

We often hear other classmates complain about teachers or staff members of the school just because "He / She took my CD player!" . Well, school teachers / staff members have feelings too and they want to be respected like every human being. Allowing CD can help to reduce negative feelings toward teachers. This can create a better environment at school, make happy students, and produce a better working atmosphere. Another reason why CD players should be allowed between classes or at lunch is because CD players cannot be harmful and they cannot cause any physical injury. CD players only play music.

They cannot be made into a weapon that can cause massive damage. Those who own CD players usually try to keep them as safe as possible because of the expensive prices. Students do not want to abuse them and are constantly protecting their investment. The last reason why the rule of not bringing CD players to school or any other communication devices should be more flexible is that with too many rules students feel they are trapped in a top-security prison. No gum, no food, no beverages, dress appropriately, no cell phones, no CD players, no being late to class etc, etc.

To many students, school can seem like a prison. However, music can help these students to escape from the pressures imposed by the school. Therefore, by letting students have their CD player when they are not at class helps them to open up a door and allow them to have the freedom they need sometimes. When students are not in class, they should be allowed to listen to their CD player without being penalized for doing so. They have fun listening to their music, they get rid of the school tension, it reduces stress, and make school be a pleasurable environment. CD players are valuable investments for students both psychologically and monetarily.
