Chapter Kuralt example essay topic
On there trip the men had to overcome wind speeds up to 60 mph and cracks in the ice up to 4 ft wide. Then one day in may of 1967 the wind and cracked ice was just to much to overcome and the men had to turn back, Although the next year with careful planning and no fear Plaisted took off on this expedition again. As Kuralt stayed back in Cedar Rapids, IA over the radio to Plaisted he asked". Where is you location?" and Plaisted reported back", Ninety degrees north!" I believe that that the moral of the story is that nothing in this world is impossible anything can happen at any given time. Like he said in this chapter how could people be starving in the richest nation in the world. And every one doubted Plaisted but look what happen he proved every body wrong.
When you put you mind to it anything is possible. 11- Boxes on Wheels This chapter began with Kuralt asking for a vacation and ended in him getting what he would be doing for the rest of his career. A box on wheels is what they call a mobile home. Kuralt and 3 other employees would travel around the nation in a mobile home searching for interesting stories to tell, but what might have been the most interesting was the mobile home. The mobile home was always breaking down they couldn't go a week with out something on the Cortez breaking down. Whether it was the carburetor, engine or the tires it broke atleast once.
The crew went threw about 5 different mobile homes, none of which did the job. The worst of the worst was one day in the winter while driving through Utah in the middle of a blizzard the mobile home broke down. They used everything form vodka to a hair dryer to unfreeze the engine. The moral of this story is when the times get tough you still need to find away to fight through. When the going gets tough the tough get going. This is what Kuralt was all about he made sure that the story was told.
When the mobile home broke down they fixed it even with out the correct tools. 12- On the Road In this Chapter Kuralt talks about the year that changed him. His first full year on the road started off shaky then new started to find him. He met many interesting people. People who did there job only because someone had to do it not for greed no motive just because. In fact Kuralt had 47 stories form 23 states that year, varying from building a park in Reno to a professor becoming a janitor just to be with the kids.
Kuralt said that in this chapter this is the year he found lots about his nation he loves, but also about himself. And he knew that this is what he wanted to do for the rest of his life. The moral of this story for every evil person there is in this world there are twice as many great human beings. You need to search to find them and with out the people like the 70-year-old teacher in the small town the world wouldn't be the same. 13- Izzy and Larry and Charlie and me In this chapter Charles starts off by saying how hard it is to find a good cameraman and how everything has to be perfect between them. Well Kuralt went though many before he found the right one that man was Izzy.
Izzy was a guy who was always looking for the best picture. Izzy would go to the extreme to find a great picture. For instance when they went out with coast guard the captain said that this boat was made to flip 360 degrees. Izzy replied by saying man that would make a good picture.
Or when Izzy climbed up the top of the Golden Gate bridge with no safety harness on at all. I would say the moral of this chapter is that in order to find the very best in things you have to try you very best to be the best you must give 110% like Izzy did every time he took a picture. You have to go to the extreme.
