Characters In Animal Farm example essay topic
He was able to take complete leadership of the farm because he secretly trained the dogs to attack Snowball. George Orwell writes, ' 'Never mind the milk, comrades!' cried Napoleon, placing himself in front of the buckets. 'That will be attended to, the harvest is more important' (817). Napoleon is quite demanding none of the animal's even question his authority because they know that he has more control than any other animal. Throughout the novel Orwell has many quotes that describe Napoleon as a leader, ' 'long live Comrade Napoleon' '; (846). All the animals on the farm (no matter what Napoleon did to them) would treat him as a powerful leader and whatever he said they would do.
Often Orwell stirs up controversy about the rebellion, ' 'forward in the name of the rebellion. 'Long live Animal farm!' 'Long live Comrade Napoleon!' 'Napoleon is always right. ' Those were his very last words, comrades' '; (849). Squealer's letting everyone know that no matter what happens to Animal Farm, just remember that Napoleon was an outstanding leader most of the time. Napoleon was an outstanding leader and contributor to Animal Farm without his power the farm would have collapsed earlier. Also, basically all the animals on Animal Farm were pretty dumb, they could not read or write.
After Old Major's death, just three days after presenting his vision to the animals, Snowball and Napoleon quickly become the leaders in planning for the Rebellion because they were the only animals that were smart enough. Besides from Napoleon and Snowball all the animals did many stupid things on the farm. The characters in Animal Farm said a lot of stupid things throughout the whole story, ' 'He is dead, said Boxer sorrowfully. 'I had no intention of doing that. I forgot that I was wearing iron shoes' '; (822). Boxer did not even realize that he was wearing iron shoes and when he was pawing with his hoof at the stable-lad that laid face down in the mud he had killed it.
George Orwell expresses what animal's opinions are about humans, 'War is wars. The only good human being is a dead one. ' I have no wish to take life, not even human life,' '; repeated Boxer and his eyes were full of tears (822). This just goes to show us that Boxer has no clue what he is talking about. He thinks that humans are so bad, but if the animals had the help of more humans Animal Farm would have been run better.
In the novel Orwell does a good job of describing what the animals believed, 'It says, 'No animal shall sleep in a bed with sheets, she announced finally'; (832). Curiously enough, Clover had not even remembered that the Fourth Commandment mentioned sheets, she thought it did not matter if she slept on a bed with sheets. Besides Napoleon and Snowball none of the animals in the farm were very smart, because they were the only two that could read and write, therefore they had more knowledge then everyone else. Finally, Mr. Jones is the only character that was sneaky because he was able to destroy the windmill without being caught. Orwell uses trickery in the story to make us the readers think differently about some of the characters he wants us to recognize how smart Mr. Jones is, ' 'Master, or made elementary remarks such as 'Mr. Jones feeds us. If he were gone, we should starve to death' '; (814).
All the animals at first thought Mr. Jones was a great guy, but what they did not know is that he would later get revenge on them and he would not be caught. You can tell that Orwell wants you to have feel for what the characters think of Mr. Jones, ' 'At the last moment Mollie, the foolish, pretty white mare who drew Mr. Jone's trap, came mincing daintily in chewing at a lump of sugar' '; (811). This shows that Mollie is really stupid and Mr. Jones has Mollie trapped in the long run and he will get the best of her. The animals think they area so smart, ' 'Impossible!' cried Napoleon.
'We have built the walls far too thick for that. They could not knock it down in a week. Courage, comrades!' '; (843). No one on the farm had a clue has to how the windmill was destroyed the second time. They thought that there was no way for people to get to the windmill because it was so well protected, but they did not know how smart Mr. Jones was. Mr. Jones was an incredible person he was able to blow up the windmill by secretly putting dynamite in it, which proved that he was a very sneaky guy.
This novel was very entertaining and interesting because all of the characters had different characteristics. Some of the characters in Animal Farm were sneaky, stupid, and powerful all of which helped make this a great story. Even though one of the commandments is that all animals are treated equal, the animals were treated based on their social status, which was not fair, in today's world you should treat everyone with the same respect. Although some of the animals did not follow the seven commandments most of them obeyed by the rules, which made life on the farm more enjoyable because they had more freedoms..
