In a picture perfect society a family consists of a mother, a father, and children. However, we do not live in a picture perfect society. These days it is perfectly normal for there to be a single parent raising one or more children. In some peoples' eyes single parents are looked down upon, but with the circumstances in today's world being a single parent is just as common as a family with two parents.

Parenting is normally a shared responsibility but one person can do it. A single parent has to care for a child's every need and want. A single mother meets a child's emotional needs by loving, caring and understanding the child. A single mother must be able to unconditionally love a child to show the child that she is loved and appreciated. A single mother has to love a child in the ways that both a father and mother must do. A single mother not only has to act as the mother but also the father.

The mother has to be able to let her child experience things that a boy would normally do with is father. The mother has to act like a father figure and be able to do the things a father would. A single mother has to love the child more than they would if there were two parents. The child may need more love from a single parent than from two parents because the child is only getting attention from one parent. Normally when one parent punishes a child, the child goes to the other parent for love and comfort. When a single mother punishes a child, the child has no one to go to get love.

The child may feel her mother does not love her and needs extra attention to feel loved again. A single mother has to let the child know she is loved no matter what and will always be loved. Loving a child is very important to a single mother, but caring for the child is equally as important. A single mother must care for a child in a way that two parents would do.

If the child were to wake up in the middle of the night scared the single mother has to be the one to get out of bed and comfort the child. When the child gets sick or hurt the single mother has to be the one to nurse her back to health. When a child is sick she always wants to go to her parents to make her feel better, and the mother has to be available to do that. The single mother has to take off work to help care for the child and make her healthy again. A single mother has to care for a child in every way possible and be there for the child at all times. Caring for a child is part of everyday life, but understanding a child is an infinite process.

Since the single mother is the only one to discipline the child, they must understand the child's actions. A single mother has to understand the child's feelings, thoughts, and the way the child acts. A single mother has to be more understanding with the child because the child is only getting attention from one parent. At a young age the child may not understand why they only have one parent and the mother will have to explain it for the child when she is old enough to handle the explanation. The mother has to be more sensitive to the child's needs and wants and has to provide for the child the best they can. As the child gets older, the mother has to understand the child's desires and dreams in life.

A single mother has to stand behind and believe in their child as long as the child is doing the right thing. By loving, caring and understanding a child a single mother will meet the child's emotional needs. Being a single mother is a tough job and takes a lot of hard work and dedication. A single mother has a lot more responsibility and duties than two parents.

A single mother has to be truly dedicated to their child and basically be on call for their child all the time. Being a single mother has its advantages, but can take a lot out of a person. A single mother can learn more about their child and more about them self as well. A single mother can become a better person by raising their child by their self. Even though it can take a lot out of a person, being a single mother can be a rewarding experience.
