Bonnie was born in the tiny town of Rowena, Texas on October 1, 1910. Boinnies's father died in 1914, and after that it was hard for her mother to make enough money for bonnie and her two siblings. When Bonnie was small she was terrified of guns she once cried when she accidentally touched her grandfather's old pistol Later they moved to west Dallas to live with Bonnie's grand parents. Bonnie went to Cement City High School. She won a lot of awards for poems, drama, and spelling. Bonnie got married at age sixteen to a classmate named Ray Thornton from her school.
She later dropped out of school. It did not take long for her husband to start leaving the house for days, weeks and months. Bonnie could not put up with this. She moved back with her mother and got ajob as a waitress at Marco's cafe. Clyde was born in the small town of Tellico, Texas. He was the sixth of eight kids Unlike Bonnie, Clyde's life was a struggle from day one.
His family rarely had enough food. They went with meatless stew for months on end. That did not keep Clyde from being a kid. When he was small he pretended to be Jesse James or Cole Younger, famous outlaws of the old west. He would regularly ask his older sister to skip school with him so they could play gun fights. Just as Bonnie did, Clyde dropped out of school at age sixteen.
He got ajob and saved up enough money to buy a car and then he quit. After that he hung out with his brother "Buck" a lot. One night they got brave and stole a car and with that car they stole a safe from a business. They got busted. Buck drove the car into a pole as soon as the car stopped Clyde was out and running never looking back at bis brother. His brother was convicted and jailed.
The next night Clyde was again robbing more businesses in Waco with his friends. When Clyde was 20 he went to visit an old girl friend that had broken an arm. When he was talking to her he heard a noise in the kitchen. He asked his friend what all the noise was about, and she said "That is my friend, go and say hello". It was love at first sight over a glass of oval tine. While dating Clyde repeatedly cussed President Hoover and the rest of the politicians.
After a while nineteen-year-old year old bonnie brought her boyfriend to her mother's house. This is where cops had followed Clyde and arrested him for previous robberies. Bonnie cried, asking the cops not to take him. Clyde was convicted and sent to jail. Bonnie often wrote to him. She once wrote "I want you tobe a man and not a thug.
I know you " re good. "Bonnie visited Clyde in jail often. She would come every chance she had. In one of those visits Clyde tells her that an inmate is willing to help Clyde escape from jail if she can do a favor for him. She is asked to bring were she can fmd a gun.
The next day she returns with the colt. 32 hidden in her dress. She gives it to Clyde during the visit. When she wakes up the next morning she hears that two convicts escaped from the prison that night. Clyde escaped to Illinois and robbed a couple of stores. There he was caught trying to rob a dry cleaners and sent back to Texas.
He was sentenced to 14 years of labor prison. Clyde is sent to Eastham. On the outside his family was working hard to try to get him out of prison. By talking to the judge they were able to lower the sentence to three years. A couple of weeks went by and Clyde got fed up with it. He convinced a fellow inmate to cutoff two of his toes.
He did it and Clyde came out of Eastham two weeks later, but not before making fi-i ends. Here he met people he would later join forces with and rob more stores and banks with. Once Clyde entered Eastham he became a hardened criminal he saw how bad a prison can be. When he got home he told his mother he would never see the inside of a prison again; he would rather die first. He did not know how right he would be.
After a while of being out of prison Clyde tried to work a regular job but, it was difficult for him to do so. It did not take too long before he started to rob and steal again. But this time Bonnie decided that she was going along. She was not about to stay behind anymore. On the first job that Bonnie came on they were in a small town robbing a store across the street from the court house.
Clyde and Fults were in the store. Bonnie waited outside in the car. The watchmen saw that someone broke in and sounded that alarm they ran out of the store and into the car. After leaving the city limits Clyde dropped Bonnie off and gave her money he told her to got in to town and get a room in the morning she was to go back to Dallas, Clyde and Fults went to another city and split up.
Fults was arrested that night. April 30 Clyde and Hamilton a prisoner he met in Eastham woke up a couple to open a safe. When the old man opened it the edge of the safe clipped the gun and it went off the old man grabbed his chest and fell to the floor dead. After this there was no turning back.
They would surely fry for this on. The men left with no more that 15 dollars and 2,000 dollars worth of jewelry. Clyde got to Dallas as soon as possible to tell Bonnie about the mishap from now on they would never leave each others side. Now.
