Remember the Titans In the movie 'Remember the Titans', there are many management concepts covered throughout the movie and he is the agent in the movie. The players on the Titans are the targets of the influence. 'Remember the Titans' is the perfect movie for Exam 3. It covers many topics that were on the exam, and this class has given me a different way of looking at the movie. I have seen the movie many times, but I never looked at it from a management perspective. It now makes sense to me to look at a football team, or any other type of sports team, from a management point of view.

Coach Herman Boone, who is played by Denzel Washington, is a very influential person. He is a perfect leader. While it cannot be found out for sure, Coach Boone can be classified under the trait theory of management, that "Leaders are Born". The type of leadership he displays cannot be taught, he is able to bring together two different types of groups to act as one, to respect each other and play together.

He shows power in the movie, he has a large capacity to influence others. Using his power, he gets the players to conform and forget how others think they are supposed to act towards each other. The goal specificity is also clear in the movie. Coach Boone expects his team to be 'perfect', he expects them to win the Virginia State Championship. Former head coach and now assistant coach Bill Yoast, played by Will Patton, is also a very influential person and good leader. He is in charge of the defense and he gets his players to 'play for him' and they become an almost unstoppable force.

Their opponents do not score against them often in the movie. In the movie, Coach Boone is a master motivator. He does an excellent job of energizing his players, sustaining the motivation, directing the motivation to the right players at the right time, and also knowing when to stop motivating. The satisfaction progression hypothesis is also displayed in the movie. Coach Boone knows that the small things, such as making the routine plays in the game, must be done first before the main goal can be achieved, winning the game. He also has a high expectancy of his team.

He believes that the effort of his team will lead to performance and that the performance will lead to results. He expects his team to practice just as hard as they play in the game. Julius Campbell and Gary Bertie r, the two main characters on the team, are also excellent motivators. They get their teammates pumped up before and during the game. As with most sports teams, the Titans have an autocratic leadership style. Coach Boone is the one and only person who makes the decisions, he is the main man in charge.

The style is productive, and the team wins games. Although he has assistant coaches, such as Bill Yoast who is the defensive coordinator, all the decisions must go through Coach Boone first. The democratic leadership style is not applicable on a football team because that's why teams have coaches. The team does not make group decisions. Coach Boone also uses Job Enlargement in 'Remember the Titans'. He combines being the head coach and also being the offensive coordinator.

They are usually separate jobs done by two people, but Coach Boone combines them to help motivate his players by being able to interact with them at both levels. With that said, Coach Boone also has a lot of skill variety in his job. His job requires a variety of different activities in carrying out work. 'Remember the Titans' is an excellent movie and it shows a wide variety of management ideas throughout it.
