The comic book loved by all is finally on the big screens. On May 3rd, 2002 Columbia Picture's released Spider-Man, directed by Sam Raimi and soon enough it became a dazzling and thrilling hit. Tobey Maguire played a convincing character of Peter Parker who was an unpopular and nerdy high school senior. While on a class field trip to a lab at Columbia University, Peter was bitten by a genetically altered spider and gained superhuman strength.

When he awakened the next day, he was shocked to discover that he not only didn't need his glasses any more, but had grown muscles and a strong figure too. He soon realized his capability to climb walls and shoot webs. With his extreme power and his red, blue suit, he swore to use his abilities to fight crime. Very soon the newspapers were covered about the mysterious Spider-Man. At the same time Peter started a friendship with his secret life-long love, Mary Jane Parker played by Kirsten Dunst, who later fell in love for Spider-Man who rescued her twice.

Meanwhile, wealthy, hotshot scientist Norman Osborn played by Willem Dafoe became the Green Goblin, Spider-Man biggest enemy. The last scene, set in a cemetery between Peter and Mary Jane, leaves everyone craving for more as it sets up the inevitable sequel. The film is wonderful and a delight to watch as it has everything a view could ask for- memorable characters, genuine romance, convincing special effects, and an entertaining storyline. As a viewer, this movie should be rated four stars.
