Essay 2: Comment on and discuss this declaration made by Tony BLAIR during a recent summit in Johannesburg: " The key characteristic of today's world is its inter-dependence. Your problem becomes my problem. (... ) We know the problems. We know the solutions. Let us together find the political will to deliver them".

The Economist, Sept 6, 2001 Nowadays, each country is more and more concerned about other countries' problems because they are aware of the consequences that may occur in the future. This "your problem becomes my problem" theory is called inter-dependence. We are going to see what are the problems and what solutions must be taken. Most problems come from developing countries and are usually the same: famine, disease and / or conflict. These problems have increased during the past decades maybe because of the high development of the developped countries. Although the developed countries often discuss about all the problems, a significant solution has not been found yet.

But these are not the only problems worrying the world. The most recent one is the one about environmental issues like the hole in the atmosphere, the rise in temperature, pollution... We know that if climate change is not stopped, all parts of the world will suffer. Therefore, everybody must feel concerned about the problem and must help to reduce all this by saving energy, not polluting...

The solution of all these problems is the sustainable development: "positive change which does not undermine the environment or social systems on which we depend". It requires a coordinated approach to planning and policy making that involves public participation. Its success depends upon widespread understanding of the critical relationship between people and their environment and the will to make to necessary changes. So that means that it is necessary to have a common goal for every countries in the world.

Consequently, they must find a common political will to deliver the solutions. Finally, as Tony BLAIR said "we know the problems. We know the solutions". What is missing right now is the way to solve those problems, that is to say the problems. We know the solutions".

What is missing right now is the way to solve those problems, that is to say the applications of the solutions..
