Country A Woman example essay topic

372 words
It is definitely time this country had a female president in the White house. For over two-hundred years this country has existed, and every four years there is an election. With the passing of each election a man has always been chosen for the most influential job in the free world. A possible reason for this is that women have been looked upon since the dawn of time as the weaker species. That was never the case with such women as Catherine the Great, Cleopatra, and Joan of Arc. These women would have never been able to lead their countries and wage the wars that they did if the above statement was even close to true.

Back in the beginning of this country a woman was only deemed to be useful when it came to affairs of the house and were raised accordingly. Being taught to cook, clean, sew, and cater to her husband's every whim. It was not until women began to realize just how unfairly treated they were that they started to fight for their rights not only as women, but as citizens of this country. This movement was led by such strong women as Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Lucretia Coffin Mott, and Margaret Sanger just to name a few. They finally won the right to vote with the nineteenth amendment in August of nineteen-twenty.

Now women make up over fifty percent of the population in this country. Why shouldn t the women of this country have someone who is sensitive and understanding to their needs? It has already been proven that women can hold powerful jobs. Look at Margaret Thatcher, who was once the Prime Minister of Great Britain. Or even more recently Mati line Albright, the first female Secretary of State for this nation. Oprah Winfrey was just voted by her peers to be the most powerful woman in the entertainment industry.

Men have governed this for far too long. Granted some have done wonderful jobs, but others have made a mockery of the presidency. Thus making the election in two-thousand the perfect time for a change.
