Sumer was a very important Civiliastion because of what it left he world. The Sumerians invented many things that we still use today or have used in the past. Alot of people's lives have been affected by the Sumerians inventions and many fo them dont know it. My life has been affected in the way that i use and listen to many of the things that were invented by the Sumerians.
Not only people that live in the "City" have benifited by the inventions of this great civilisation, but farmers and people in the country has also benifited. The Sumerians may have also made a difference in the lives of Doctors and iLL people as they were the first to start study medicine. Time the Sumerians invented the number system around 60 that we still use today with time e.g. Seconds and Hours but these are all small compared to the Wheel. The Wheel, maybe the Sumerians greatest invention. Of course everybody has heard of a wheel but not many people know who invented the wheel. Very early wheels were made out of pottery and used on carts by The Sumerians to help transport and they did just that.
Pretty much everybody who is over 20 has rode, drove or been a passenger in something with wheels. Car is one of the biggest transportation devices in the world and it couldnt have even been made if the Sumerians hadnt invented the wheel, we would still be riding horses around! Doctors in sumer started making medicine and writing very simple perscriptions. Everytime we go to the doctors and we r sick we us elly get a perscription. They also were one of the first people to use the calander, which is also still used today.
They used it for the same things to! To keep track of what day it was. They also had seasons just like we do but they only had to Summer and Winter. The Sumerians have also invented Irrigation which is still used today with great sucess, millions of people around the world use irrigation which is a system of runnin water from rivers to there plants, this invention was esciplly important to the Sumerians because their main money came from farming. Maybe second on the list of the best inventions by the Sumerians is the Boat, many thing that we eat and use are brought in by boats. We trade with other country's Using boats and can also deport and sell things like wheat which contribute to our economy.
The Sumerians were no different they used boats to trade weather it be a big boat or a small home made one. They also made many musical instruments including the harp and music it elf. Sumer was a very important civilization in the aspect that it has created many of the things we still sue to day, everything from transportation to farming to music, Sumer has had some impact on. In many peoples live would no function properly if it was not for the Sumerians. That's is why it is Important, because of what it has left the world.
