Creationists As Evidence For Evolution example essay topic

Not everyone accepts the Theory of Evolution. There is a group of people who believe in the literal truth of the bible. These people call themselves creationists, and they believe that the creation chapters of the book of Genesis are accurate accounts of the actual events in the history of the universe. According to Creation Theory, everything in the universe was made by God in the six literal days of the creation week. This includes the creation of first human beings, Adam and Eve, from whom all human beings are descended.

The creation theory explains the origin of living things, and their variety, rather simply. Each plant and animal was specially designed and placed on the earth a few thousand years ago by the Creator: God. Creationists believe that the earth was created only a few thousand years ago therefore there would be no time for present-day animals and plants to have evolved from their ancestors, like the Theory of Evolution suggests. All the radioactive dating techniques assume that the rate of decay of the radioactive isotopes has stayed the same ever since the formation of rocks.

Creationists believe that a sudden catastrophic event a few thousand years ago would have changed these rates of decay. They also question other assumptions of the dating method, and point out the differences in the age of the earth made by different scientists and different dating methods. The Palu xy River, near Glen Rose, Texas is a fast flowing river which often dries up completely. Other times it is a flowing river that can carry 400 kg slabs of limestone down stream.

One flood in 1908 raised the river eight meters, and when it, drained a limestone cliff had been washed away, revealing another layer of limestone beneath it, that had been covered with a layer of clay. Eventually the clay eroded, revealing fossilized footprints of a number of kinds of dinosaurs. Along with these tracks of very large footprints, there was a smaller set of tracks thought to be made by humans. The smaller tracks are said to be slightly larger than a human foot today.

In some cases these footprints overlap the tracks made by the dinosaur, and they look to have been made by a moccasin or wrapping covering the foot. These discoveries pose a great problem for the Theory of Evolution. Dating by radioactive isotopes and comparison with other fossils have convinced evolutionists that dinosaurs became extinct 60-70 million years ago. Since man, according to recent evidence, appeared approximately four million years ago, man could not have been around during the same period as dinosaurs.

Proving the dating method, the Theory of Evolution, or both, are false. Creationists, on the other hand, expect that dinosaur and human tracks would be together because they believe both were created at the same time, only a few thousand years ago. Creationists are prepared to look at all the evidence which has been brought forward by evolutionists in an attempt to discourage the creationists' theory. For example, evolutionists believe the similarities in bone structure between a man's arm, a horse's front leg, a dolphin's flipper, and a bat's wing, prove that animals evolved from a common ancestor, and that the very similar chemical composition shared by all plants and animals also shows that animals are descended from a common ancestor. To creationists, these similarities demonstrate the creator's plan was economical, and that he was prepared to use similar functions and similar chemistry to serve various purposes in different animals and plants. Similarities in embryology are also discredited by creationists as evidence for evolution.

They say that the creator designed most higher animals to reproduce by a similar method: sexual reproduction, followed by development of the embryo, either in the egg or inside the body of the mother. Therefore it is not surprising that all these animals go through similar stages in development. Creationists consider what the evolutionist calls a 'useless vestigial structure's uch as the human tail. Creationists are skeptical about these structures and point out that even if some parts of the body are useless, it does not prove that they are the remains of the animal's ancestors. They could quite simply be the result of a genetic mutation, the degeneration of all living matter which creationists believe is happening all the time. They also think the 'vestigial structure' could exist because all animals are made from the same basic plan.

Not all parts of the plan are needed, and used the same in all animals. Creationists accept that they are among a very small minority against people, but especially among scientists. This does not prevent them from standing by their beliefs, and going against modern technologies and new information found daily by scientists. It is because of their dedication and devotion to their belief in the "Creator" that makes people think twice about the ever popular Theory of Evolution.
