Criminal Investigative Division The Fbi's Investigative Division example essay topic
An applicant who has sold any illegal drug for profit at any time will be found unsuitable for employment. 1 This allows the FBI to have no corrupt agents coming in. The FBI has a special honor ship internship program. The Honors Internship Program will begin approximately on the first Monday in June and will terminate approximately on the third Friday in August. 2 This just happens to fall into the FBI's application window also.
All expenses for Interns traveling to and from Washington, D.C. to participate in this program will be reimbursed by the FBI. 3 This makes for a easier decision for a intern to come to Washington D. C just knowing that all of their travel expenses to and from Washington D.C. are all paid for. Undergraduate interns are paid at the GS-6 grade level, and graduate interns are paid at the GS-7 grade level on the government pay scale. 4 This is pretty good pay for an intern. Like any job the FBI is based on how much education a Applicant has had. Information an assistance on housing is provided by FBI Headquarters.
However, interns are responsible for finalizing their own arrangements. 5 I think this good because the FBI does help it's interns into living arrangements but it is the interns responsibility to finalize the arrangements. Interns who own vehicles are encouraged to bring them to Washington, D.C. to facilitate travel related to particular assignments (some assignments are outside of Headquarters, though all are in the Greater Washington, D.C. area). 6 This program allows the people that have made the cut see what the FBI actually does. But the application is only from July to October and you have to write a 500 word essay.
The history of the FBI all relates to this due to the assignments that they are on and the temptations seen by the agents. Since its founding in 1908 as the Bureau of Investigation, the FBI has evolved into one of the most respected and sophisticated law enforcement agencies in the world. 7 This is a perfect example for the American people to see that the FBI agents are the top cops in the world. As the primary investigative arm of the federal government, the FBI is responsible for enforcing over 260 federal statutes and for conducting sensitive national security investigations. 8 Many think that the CIA handles this but it is really the FBI. FBI activities include investigations into organized crime, white-collar crime, public corruption, financial crime, fraud against the government, bribery, copy-right matters, civil rights violations, bank robbery, extortion, kidnapping, air piracy, terrorism, foreign counterintelligence, interstate criminal activity, fugitive and drug-trafficking matters, and other violations of federal statutes.
9 They deal with the same problems as many police officers do today but they deal with these crimes on a national level 1. After its founding in 1908 the FBI had to deal with the Lawless years. These years fell from 1921 to 1933 this was basically when probation was in effect. The most largest criminals in the United States ran ramp et around the country bootlegging alcohol. The two most famous were Al Capone and John Dillinger. Al capone was the biggest bootlegger in the Chicago crime ring.
He was made famous for his bootleg trafficking. The most famed FBI director had to be John Edgar Hoover he was the longest raining FBI director ever. He was there from 1924 to his death on the night of May 1st or 2nd 1972. Hoover made the FBI into a large efficient and renowned police agency 10 This is true do to the changes he made with how far the FBI went to catching criminals. He increased the public relations that the FBI had with the general public. For example he started the national finger printing, raised recruiting standards, and beefed up its labatorys and training academies.
Hoover Came over deep critizim during the last decade of his sentence. He was obsessed with busting down on organized crime. During the last decade of his life Hoover came under criticism for his reluctance to tackle organized crime and for his neglect or even violation of the civil rights of suspects. 11 I feel this is wrong but he did what he had to to ensure domestic tranquillity in his mind. J. Edgar Hoover was there during the World War Two era and for the Vietnam Era. During World War Two his FBI investigated potentially dangerous German, Italian, and Japanese nationals. Now in present day the FBI maintains field offices in more than 60 US cities.
In today's FBI the only director to be dismissed was the last whom was William Sessions. This is a very dishonorable thing to happen to a man of the top cop in the nation. During the Watergate era the acting director resigned do to destroying material that was important to the Watergate case. But what types of work does the FBI actually do within their offices. In the offices of the FBI there are many important divisions like the Counterterrorism division, Criminal Investigation division, Inspection Division, National Security Division and Training Division. These divisions all ensure the Domestic tranquillity of our nation.
The Counterterrorism Division consolidates all FBI counterterrorism initiatives. The National Infrastructure Protection Center (NIPC) and the National Domestic Preparedness Office (NDPO) are assigned to this division. The NIPC serves as the U.S. government's focal point for threat assessment, warning, investigation, and response for threats or attacks against the United States' critical infrastructures. 12 This division serves as the main investigation unit of the FBI. The NDPO coordinates all federal efforts to assist state and local first responders with planning, training, and equipment needs necessary to respond to a conventional or non-conventional weapons of mass destruction incident. 13 This division focuses on making the agents as good as the can be.
Criminal Investigative Division the FBI's investigative division is the broadest of all federal law enforcement agencies. This division coordinates investigations into organized crime, including drug matters, racketeering, and money laundering; investigations into violent crimes, including fugitives wanted, escaped federal prisoners (in some instances), unlawful flight to avoid prosecution, violent gangs, serial murders, kidnappings, bank robberies, violent crimes and property crimes of an interstate nature, crime on Indian reservations, crimes against U.S. citizens overseas, and theft of government property; investigations into white-collar crime, fraud against the government, corruption of public officials, health care fraud, election law violations, business and economic frauds and corruption crimes; and investigations into civil rights violations. 14 In my mind this division is the workhorse of the FBI. The Inspection Division is responsible for conducting examinations of the FBI's investigative and administrative operations at Headquarters and field offices to ensure compliance with established regulations and to make recommendations for improved organizational efficiency and effectiveness. 15 This division is like the quality control of the bureau. The National Security Division coordinates investigative matters concerning foreign counterintelligence.
Activities include investigations into espionage, overseas homicide, protection of foreign officials and guests, domestic security, and nuclear extortion. This division is also responsible or the FBI's Security Countermeasures Program which includes background investigations and physical security issues. 16 These guys are like the secret agents of the FBI who the public has really never heard of. The Training Division is located in Quantico, Virginia, this is one of the world's most respected law enforcement training centers. This division manages the FBI Academy and trains FBI Special Agents and Professional Support staff as well as local, state, federal and international law enforcement personnel. FBI employee training programs include New Agent Training, In-Service and Specialized Training for Agents and Professional Support personnel.
Police training programs include the FBI National Academy, an 11-week multidisciplinary program for seasoned law enforcement managers; the Executive Training program for Chief Executive Officers of our country's largest law enforcement organizations; and Operational Assistance, which trains law enforcement personnel how to respond in certain emergency situations. All of these divisions make the United States even Safer inside of our countries borders. 17 This division basically has the job of making the FBI the best inside our country. In conclusion the FBI insures the domestic tranquillity of the United States by hiring good agents and having a good history. All in all the FBI is looked at as the top cops in the nation and are seen as the most influential trend setters in the world for law enforcement either it be local of domestic. The FBI also in turn helps local agencies in the United States with major investigations.
