The Forgiving Dove long time ago on the small island of Wanahkie there was a beautiful forest that grew in the centre of this deserted island. In the middle of this forest stood a tree which was superior to all the other trees, it was the oldest, and biggest tree in the forest and legend has it that the tree possessed love, kindness, and knowledge. The birds of the forest named the tree Joshua. The tree was home to many birds, which included a dove and a crow. Early every sunrise the dove would awake and begin collecting food and nesting materials for her babies. As she began to flight and return home everyday, the crow would step in and steal all her food and materials.

The crow was greedy and never awoke to gather his own for his babies for he was too lazy. The dove would then have to fly back into the forest search all over again, but all she would find was scraps. The dove made the best of what she had. Her nest was not the biggest nor the best and the food she had to feed her family left them craving for more. It didn't matter to her how big her nest was, as long as they were together as a family she was happy. The crow how ever had the biggest nest and always plenty of food to feed his family.

The crow never worked for anything he had, he always stole from the dove. The crows big nest and lots of food made him very happy, but his greed kept him from sharing with the dove. One sad morning the dove had awoke and saw that the sun was not shining for big black dark clouds were covering it. The dove had a feeling that a terrible storm was approaching, so she called out to all the birds to seek shelter. The crow began to panic and decided he and his family would flee from the tree and try to run from the storm. The dove believed the tree's long branches would shield them from the rain and protect against the storm.

The dove warned the crow to stay yet he refused to listen and flew away. Morning drew closer and the suns rays began to shine on Wanahkie. The storm had finally passed, although it was violent and horrific the dove's family had been protected by the strong tree. Though their nest was of course damaged, the dove's family was still alive and in one piece. The dove was recollecting materials needed to fix her nest when she noticed the crow's family had not returned.

The dove was overtaking with worry and fear and had decided to set out to find them. After flying all morning, she noticed a terrible sight. The crow and his family were lying down under a tree. They were sick and injured. The dove took it upon her self to help the crow and his family back to the big superior tree, and nursed them back to health.

The crow's nest was badly damaged so the dove spent one whole day fixing it up. For a week the dove feed and took care of the crow and his family. A week went by and the crow began to feel healthy again. He saw how the dove was rebuilding his home and feeding his family, and realized how the dove's kindness and unselfishness ways saved his family.

The crow also realized that sharing pays off more then being greedy. And having a big nest and lots of food, doesn't make one happy. Happiness comes from within you. The crow realized that you must make the best of what you have. The crows learned a valuable lesson from all this, he shouldn't have doubted what the dove said about staying in the big tree during the storm. The crow should have kept faith in the tree he was living in to protect him.

The crow from there on shared what he could with the dove and always made the best of what he had. From there on when ever there was a storm, the crow trusted in the tree and was protected as well as the doves family. Together the crow and the dove built a strong friendship that lasted forever. They lived their remaining lives with their nest side by side on the beautiful island of Wanahkie in the superior tree named Joshua.
