Beauty, In All It's Splendor. Beauty is something that everyone is familiar with. It can't just be defined as something that may look good. It can be a feeling, a piece of art, music, or words. Anything can be beautiful depending on the person, beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder. The study of beauty (aesthetics) is something not easily perfected because there is no absolute and true single beautiful thing in the world.
Ideas of what is beautiful and what isn't change quickly, one day something may be thought of as "in" and the next day "out". I have learned that beauty isn't necessarily a person, place, or thing. Beauty for the most part is a feeling, it's internal, something in your heart or mind that makes you smile when you see, hear, or sense it. Something beautiful can give you a sublime feeling or may relax you in some ways, making you believe that everything is ok and right in the world. In all cultures ideas of beauty vary. I know that in the Japanese culture, nature, in it's pure raw self is thought of as an absolute in terms of beauty.
In the time of the ancient Aztec, goddesses of beauty were worshiped, the highest goddess of beauty was Xochiquetzal. Through myths we learn that almost all of the gods of beauty were in fact goddesses, women are usually thought of as the defining symbols of beauty. From Nefertiti to Cleopatra women have been attributed to love and beauty and that is true for many, many cultures including our own. To know beauty, is the ability to know something that is all around us but hidden from our sight.
