In the year 2081, America is a completely different place. Amendments were made to the Constitution of the United States that made it illegal to be different. Because of this Constitutional change, the idea that no one would have an advantage over someone else because of beauty, strength, intelligence, grace or anything else had become a reality. 1? Nobody was smarter than anybody else. Nobody was stronger or quicker than anybody else.?

Making outstanding people average would be a problem today. In the future, the government has ordered overachieving individuals to wear handicaps to make them average. 1? I can believe that some people in their society embraced the Constitutional changes that made this handicapping possible. Just imagine how perfect our country would be if everyone was equal and competition was erased. No worries about poor grades, promotions, pay raises, looking good in the morning, how you speak, drive, write, or read because the government has made it illegal to excel. Being normal is now mandatory. Harrison Bergeron was an extreme danger to this society. His views were exactly the opposite of amendment 211,212, and 213 of the Constitution.
