Darth Vader And Obi Wan example essay topic
In the movie Star Wars, Luke Skywalker has many signs of being a mythic hero. One sign is that throughout the movie he was aided by loyal friends. Near the beginning of the movie, Luke and his Uncle Owen bought two droids, C 3 PO and R 2 D 2. C 3 PO and R 2 D 2 are both droids that were on the enemy's ship.
They escaped safely with a message for Obi Wan Kenobi that Princess Leia had put inside of him. When Luke and his uncle bought the two droids, they were at Luke's command. They followed him, distracted enemies for him and even helped him save Princess Leia. Another man he met was Ben Kenobi. He was also well known as Obi Wan Kenobi. Obi Wan told Luke about his father and introduced the Force to him.
Because of Obi Wan, Luke was beginning to become very strong in the Force. Even after Darth Vader had killed Obi Wan, he still helped Luke. Obi Wan became part of the Force and he helped guide Luke along. When Luke and Obi Wan were going to Alderman, they needed a pilot to fly them there. They went out and found a man named Han Solo and his trusty friend and co-pilot, Chewbacca, the Wookie. Han Solo and Chewbacca not only flew them to the places they needed to go, they also fought off the Tie fighters while Luke blew up the Death Star.
Another reason Luke is a mythic hero is because he had to endure many tasks and challenges in the movie. He had to save Princess Leia, learn how to use the Force, and destroy the Death Star. While trying to save Princess Leia, he had to use his skills as a Jedi and try using the new skill of the Force he was learning. In learning the Force, Luke had to fight a different way. He had to go with his instinct and go with what he thought, not with what he saw, and the same goes for destroying a Death Star. Luke is also a mythic hero because he is unaware of his origins and he was raised by his Aunt Be ru and Uncle Owen.
He did not know anything about his mother and father other than the stuff that his aunt and uncle told him. He did not know of the Force either. The information they told him was not even the truth. Luke's uncle told him that his father was a navigator on a space freighter, but actually, he was a Jedi Knight, just like Obi Wan Kenobi. Star Wars as a whole is a myth. Star Wars teaches moral lessons.
It shows the difference between good, Obi Wan Kenobi, and evil, Darth Vader. Darth Vader and Obi Wan are both very strong in the Force, but Darth Vader is on the dark side for evil and Obi Wan is for good. Darth Vader started off as a pupil of Obi Wan's until he turned to the dark side. Darth Vader took the wrong path. The moral of Star Wars is to choose the right path, do not go down the path of evil. The final reason Star Wars is a myth is because of the Force.
The Force is a religion. To explain what the Force is, Obi Wan said, "Well, the Force is what gives the Jedi his power. It's an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us. It binds the galaxy together". General Mott i, while talking to Darth Vader, refers to the force as an "ancient religion" that has not helped destroy the planer or find the stolen data tapes.
Darth Vader thinks that he does not have any faith for saying this. Later on, Han Solo said to Luke about the Force, "Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid". Han Solo did not believe in the Force. Then Governor T arkin said to Darth Vader, "The Jedi are extinct, their fire has gone out of the universe. You, my friend, are all that's left of their religion". So in a way, Darth Vader can be viewed as a god.
He is very strong, one of the strongest, in using the Force. Obi Wan Kenobi can also be viewed as a god. They both are admired and looked upon for their powers. With a mythic hero and characteristics of being a myth, Star Wars is one of today's modern day myths.
