Day For Three Months example essay topic

346 words
We left England to avoid debt and for a change to have a better life. The last day we saw England was March 22, 1735. We were going to a colony in America called Georgia. When my family and I boarded the ship we were afraid of what might happen on the ship. We have heard many stories about ships disappearing and ghosts wandering the sea. When we left we knew that it was our last day to see England and maybe our last day to see land.

We preyed for a safe voyage and clear skies. Our ship was made of wood and very small. We had to fit five people into small one bed cabins. We had to eat the same food everyday for three months. After the first month our food became rancid and many passengers became sick.

The cabins were constantly wet and reeked of vomit and feces. Whenever we would empty our bowl chambers, there would always be blood and pus in the corridor from the ill passengers on board. Once every three days the sailors would have to throw a dead man off the ship. Death was common and expected on the ship so they always brought less food than needed on the ship. No voyage has ever gone without a casualty. On the second month of our voyage we sailed into the path of the biggest storm I! |ve ever seen.

For two days the boat was rocking back and forth and half of our water supply was wasted because the rocking had broken some barrels. We continued our journey sick and thirsty. June 16, 1735, we have finally reached land. I have longed for this day for three months. We were so happy that all of us hugged the ground. The debtor's ship had finally arrived in Georgia and we couldn! |t be happier.

After three months of torture we were at our new home.
