Death Penalty Despite Being example essay topic
So should the Death Penalty be abolished? ... the answer is a resounding yes. There are many reasons for the disbandment of Capital Punishment. One reason that despite its rarity cannot be overlooked is error. It is possible to wrongly convict someone and to take the life of an innocent human being. Despite the fact that this has happened so little it has happened and that is the issue. Mistakes such as this are intolerable and should not given the chance to take place.
Another such reason is that the death penalty, despite being used constantly in America may be Unconstitutional. While the death penalty has been used as a tool of the law since the inception of the Constitution it violates the Constitutional amendment outlawing inhumane punishment. It seems almost ridiculous that killing somebody could be construed as a humane act. The death penalty also promotes violence in society as opposed to deterring it. It teaches children that murder can be good at times and instills a kind of vigilante mindset of an eye for an eye justice. It does not deter anybody from killing somebody.
At the dawn of the 21st century, the death penalty is considered by most civilized nations as a cruel and inhuman punishment. It has been abolished de jure or de facto by 106 nations, 30 countries have abolished it since 1990. However, the death penalty continues to be commonly applied in other nations. China, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the United States and Iran are the most prolific executioners in the world. Indeed, the US is one of six countries (including also Iran, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Yemen) which executes people who were under 18 years-old at the time they committed their crimes. These countries are mainly third world and should not be the peers of the United States in any possible scenarios.
Corley 2 The final straw is that the death penalty can be statistically proven to be racist. If a minority kills a white man he is almost assured the death penalty. The percentage of blacks on death row is much higher than the percentage of blacks comprising the population of this nation. In light of these facts and arguments it is shown and must be accepted that the death penalty is not acceptable.
It is not acceptable for a country of the United State's stature nor for any country. It teaches wrongful beliefs and prejudices. Worst of all it has the potential of ending innocent lives. Consequently the answer to all the questions are, Wrong, Unconstitutional, Murder and Biased.
