Digest Food example essay topic
The digestive juices are used to turn swallowed food into a substance that the body can use, and this substance travels through your small intestine, where the proteins are absorbed through the walls and used, and whatever isn't used is disposed of. Describe the body parts in your system and what they do The first gland that starts the digestion of food would be the salivary glands. The saliva that is produced by these glands contains an enzyme that begins to digest the starch from food into smaller molecules. The next set of digestive glands is in the stomach lining. They produce stomach acid and an enzyme that digests protein. After the stomach empties the food and juice mixture into the small intestine, the juices of two other digestive organs mix with the food to continue the process of digestion.
One of these organs is the pancreas. It produces a juice that has alot of enzymes to break down the carbohydrate, fat, and protein in food. Other enzymes that are active in the process come from glands in the wall of the intestine or even a part of that wall. The liver produces a digestive juice called bile.
The bile is stored between meals in the gallbladder. At mealtime, it is squeezed out of the gallbladder into the bile ducts to reach the intestine and mix with the fat in food. The bile acids dissolve the fat into the watery contents of the intestine. After the fat is dissolved, it is digested by enzymes from the pancreas and the lining of the intestine. After the food is digested, water and minerals are absorbed from the cavity of the upper small intestine.
Most of the absorbed minerals are carried off in the bloodstream to other parts of the body for storage or more chemical change. What ever is not used is waste, and is disposed from the body through the large intestine. What are some problems or diseases this system could have? One of the most common problems the digestive system can have is diarrhea. Diarrhea is loose water stools, occurring more than three times in one day.
Another disease is appendicitis. Appendicitis is inflammation of the appendix. If untreated, an inflamed appendix can burst, causing infection and even death. Appendicitis can affect people at any age. The last disease that I am going to mention is the Celiac Disease. Celiac disease is a digestive disease that damages the small intestine and interferes with absorption of nutrients from food.
People who have celiac disease cannot tolerate a protein called gluten, which is found in wheat, rye, barley, and possibly oats. Why is this system important to the body? The digestive system is important to the body because it prepares food, which gives the body the energy that it needs, for hundreds of millions of body cells. Food cannot reach cells when it is eaten because it cannot pass through the intestinal walls to the bloodstream and, if it could, it would not be in a useful chemical state.
The stomach changes food physically and chemically and disposes of what it cannot use. Physical and chemical modification depends on exocrine and endocrine secretions and controlled movement of food through the digestive tract. Conclusion The digestion system is truly one of the most important systems in the body. It supplies all the energy we need to go through each and every day, that is why it is important to maintain a healthy diet. I learned about different diseases you can get if u don't take care of your body properly. So remember, a healthy diet, a healthy body..
