Drama About Four Young Boys example essay topic
The boys told nobody about the pain and suffering they had to bear while being in that reform school up until 15 years later. John and Tommy spotted Nokes eating at a table at their hangout. The matter was later taken to court where the attorney Danny Snyder (Dustin Huffman) took the case. Michael, who was now an attorney too, asked to be the prosecutor.
It was all a big scheme that they planned out to bring down the guards of the reform school to get revenge. The actor's performance was breathtaking. The four boys were so young and new in the Hollywood scene, but they still managed to depict their emotions with great talent. When you saw them walking down that long corridor with all the guards behind them, the expressions on their faces were unforgettable. Another incredible performance was done by one of the guards called Fergusen, played by Terry Kinney. It was when he took the stand and was bombarded with a number of questions about the beatings and the sexual abuse endured by the young boys who attended that reform school.
Fergusen broke down and admitted to the rapes and tortures. The words that came out of his mouth brought tears to my eyes, I felt an overwhelming feeling of pity. That scene touched my heart in so many ways. The boys grew up in the 1960's. Levinson portrayed this era with ease. With the help of his production team they put a lot of hard work into every detail.
Whether it was the clothing, the lighting or even the street names they had it all covered. The music, however, was not to my liking. It didn't bring enough drama or emotion to the scenes. This movie brought to my attention the injustice those children had to endure during those years. All the pain and suffering those boys had to go through without anyone there to defend them is unimaginable. Thinking of them being raped, tortured, beaten, humiliated and emotionally scared for life makes me so frustrated but thankful at the same time that I was never faced with such a detrimental and disturbing event.
In short this movie is not for everyone, but it will help bring awareness of what goes on sometimes behind close doors. The pain that the boys suffered may not happened as often anymore, but maybe that's just because most of them can't speak out.
