RESPONSE TO LITERATURE ESSAY By the Waters of Babylon by Stephen Vincent Benet is about John the main character who is a son of a priest. The story is based in the future that went back to the past, but still is in the future. John comunity has three rules. Not to go into any dead place except to searched for metal, not to go east, and not to go a crossed the river and look a pound the place of the god. John keeps having dreams about the gods. He finaly reliazes to find out what his dream mean and to do that he has to follow his dream to the city of gods.

Which means to break the rules, but he learns to follow his in stinks. What people learn these days by dreams is to followed it because you can find out something other people do not know for good or for the bad. On John's reliazes that if the panther see's him he could be in danger so he takes his bowed and arrow and shoots and kills the panther which is very hard to kill with only one arrow. He learns then that he is meant to go on his journey.

What people learn from this is that if you do something once and it works out for thr best to keep on do nig it or keep going. When John finally gets to the city of the gods he learns or think his going to die expecialy when dogs strat to follow him and chase him. What people learns from that is that even though you think your going to die or in danger you still need to keep going and have faith and follow your dreams. when John has a dream about the goods he see's what happened to the city and the goods. What he learns from the answer and find where they are and buried oe if any sevived. What people learned from there experience like that is your getting close to the answer so dont give up now. When John wakes up in the morning he looks around the house and finds a god setting in his chair looking out the window he was dead and he was a man.

He reliazes the that gods are human. He then thinks to himself that he could build this city and that ex cally what he want to do. What people learn from this experience is that what they know from the truth can be wrong and to except the real truth and to make the best of it. I like this story a lot because it tells you that the truth can be wrong and to except the truth the wrong way it is and to make the best of it no matter how painful the truth is.
