Drilling In Wildlife example essay topic

301 words
Dear President Bush, I am a student attending the Ephraim Curtis Middle School in Sudbury, Massachusetts. I am writing to you concerning your views on certain subjects. I followed most of the debates between yourself and Mr. Gore, and I was very surprised with where you stand on drilling in wildlife reserves in Alaska. I agree that there has been a shortage of oil lately, but there is an even larger shortage of wildlife in this world, and it is diminishing every day. You have said that there is an abundance of oil in Alaska and that in fact you plan on attempting to pass a bill that will enable you to drill there. Why destroy some of the little natural wildlife we have left for a supply of oil?

I know you have made many arguments for why we should drill in Alaska, but I thought that this country was trying to downsize pollution and start to use more environment-friendly materials! If you drill in Alaska, it will supply this country with oil for many years to come. If you do not drill in Alaska and support a more efficient way of living, this country and the environment around us will flourish for many years to come. More and more products are on the market now that are environment friendly, such as more efficient light bulbs, and cars that run on little or even no gas at all.

Is your plan not contradicting these efforts to improve the environment and reduce pollution? I believe that if you drill for oil in the wildlife reserves in Alaska, and destroy acres and acres of lush wildlife, that you are contradicting yourself, when you say that this country needs to move forward.
